I have no idea. My guess is they don't understand start ups or equity. Media makes this hard I suppose, techcrunch only writes about the 1 out of 10 startups that succeed which makes it look easy. Probably the same reason I see people write about "stocks" it's the majority of their comp and they don't understand it well enough to know that "stocks" isn't a word...
Well yes duh...most start ups fail. An exit at all is considered successful by most accounts.
