First year out of school. Going to office everyday with a 10 minute commute. Hashing it out on the whiteboard with the lead. Talking about pull requests in the elevator. Highfiving manager after bugfix. Catching skip in kitchenette and talking about the big bets for next year. The culture, the camaraderie, the unity, the connection, the energy. TC: 210K
It’s begun. I said we would be back in 2023. We would start seeing posts about how we miss the office etc etc. layoffs would begin to entice people to go back. It’s here.
Most of my org is distributed across north America so it's not about layoffs for me. I am probably one of the few who enjoys office culture but it likely has to do with not being married with children. It will probably change in the future
Oh yeah you’ll want to go even more in the future. Kids are tough and you’ll want a break
I miss 2017 horribly
RTO has begun. It’ll take a while and we’ll go through the hybrid first to get people to let go of their individual offices.
Folks have moved out to different countries. RTO will take a decade hoping the people who moved out voluntarily quit. Having an office is not a requirement anymore..
Full rto won't ever happen. Too many folks moved out to other states and some to other countries. Tbh idk how headcount ever works if someone wants to come back from Europe to us for example
Bootlicker
Some people are so close minded about office culture.
I miss 2019 too but for different reasons. Right outta college, new money, new city, going out on weekends, dates, brunches, had the time and energy and all the f*ck you money to spend carelessly lol. Now I’m just coding from my room most of the time, go to the gym, game with college friends on weekdays and hang out with my gf and friends here on the weekends which is pretty lowkey. It ain’t the same

I enjoy hybrid. I have young kids and the flexibility helps given both myself and my spouse work. I have a 1 hr commute to work one way so for me I’d prefer remote. If I was closer to the office I’d probably go in more often. Right now I’m 2 days a week but the org is pushing for 3. When it’s warmed out and I can get my kids into an after care program I have no issues with 3x a week. I miss some of the team work work and group think in office but if I had a choice I’d still opt for remote.
Lame
This has never happened anywhere

Why do the Pakistanis and Bangladeshis worship India and Indian culture?
Sounds like the rose colored glasses of nostalgia 🥹
That's probably true. Remote is a good thing honestly. There is just folks like me. Maybe I should work at Bloomberg or apple 😂
