Is it really this bad at Quibi? https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2020/jun/28/quibi-netflix-jeffrey-katzenberg-crash
What’s up with the tag tho?
Tried it. Not interesting at all. Just can’t believe how much invested in this crap.
$1 billion is a lot. They can buy a nice company with a lot of existing customers
What's next. Apple TV+?
They launched dueing Covid lockdown -- so no one gives a shit about watching stuff only on mobile. It's basically applicable when the county is busy moving and traveling.
The ads for it were annoying so I didn't look at it out of spite.
You mean perpetual negative cash flow isn’t a viable business model? Lol. More to come. Including compass.
What surprised me is how did they get $1.75b funding on such a trash idea. You don't restrict your own service to be a certain format and call it an innovation. I can have a fridge screen only 5 second streaming service, contact me if you like that idea.
Content was crap. Interface was clunky. Features were poor.
I disagree. I think their content is interesting and above average, if not pulp-y at times (still, there is a self-awareness about it). Quibi also has great talent and content partners, so a lot of potential there. I think this is just a negative news cycle that needs to wear off. Perhaps Peacock will be the next whipping boy. I mean sure, the news isn’t wrong when it reports that 90% of free trial Quibi users bailed after their trial, but they were sensationalizing a bit. Bc They failed to mention that as a benchmark, Disney plus had about 11% retention after free trial (Aka 89% of their free trials bailed). Also, Disney Plus had huge partnership with Verizon and other partners offering free Disney plus as part of other packages. Not sure if Quibi had any partnership as widespread as that. That being said, there are definitely things that need to be improved. Like, ok the horizontal/vertical orientation tech is kinda cool, but it’s not game-changing. They need to stop worrying about that and focus on content and features that will actually capture the cultural imagination, attention, and discussion of the wider public. Also tell stories that matter. Tell new stories. One thing they could do is to intro more non-white narratives onto their content platform.
