I’m a Software Engineer 1 at Nordstrom with 1 YOE. The team is good and WLB is decent. Good amount of learning in my current team. I recently received an offer from Amazon for L4 SDE and Microsoft for 59 SDE. Not sure about the teams in Amazon and Microsoft. The recruiter said team matching will be done closer to the start date. I’ll be getting a 20% hike, if I switch to either Amazon or Microsoft. Not sure what I should be doing here.
L4 Amazon is a better deal that 59 Microsoft
Elaborate?
The prestige 🤪
Do not join Nordstrom. They are sinking ship
He’s currently at Nordstrom and you’re suggesting him not to join Nordstrom? Great comprehension skills!
Should have mentioned Nordstrom as current in the poll. Polls are more intuitive. Anyway, if my comment helps someone, well and good. If not, no harm.
Microsoft equity is basically considered cash right?
Do not do it for the money, please. Amazon will pay you more because you’re gonna have to use that money to pay medical bills when they destroy your health inside and out. That extra 20% is compensation for your life to be shortened. Sorry to be so pessimistic but it’s the gd truth. If you have great WLB that is more valuable than the extra cash. Sincerely, my cardiologist, my therapist, my neurologist, and I.
Adding: it’s interesting that the two from Microsoft say Amazon, and I, an Amazonian am saying not here either. Even if Nordstrom is a sinking ship, can you apply at a different company that isn’t those 3? Reddit has a pretty good rating here on Blind?
Agreed. I’ve been with Amazon for six years and it has shaved years off of my life and destroyed so much happiness. Luckily, I am leaving in a couple of weeks. I will not miss it and I will never return. I would say run for the hills.
Congratulations, OP! I would go with Microsoft if it’s not Azure (allegedly due to bad WLB), or stay at Nordstrom. I would avoid Amazon completely. Best of luck! TC: 105K
I’m assuming you’re fairly early in your career, if so, you can afford a short stint at Amazon. Get it on your resume, maintain healthy boundaries and detach yourself from any outcomes out of your control (PIP, etc). It’s a great resume builder and you’d be missing out if you pass it up IMO

How did you get Amazon L4 offer? I thought they weren’t hiring externally for that level.

It's the year of efficien... Seeing you out the door with a PIP. Training is not efficient in the short term. Right now it's all about short term thinking.
+1 tehSURGE, PIPs for anyone who doesn’t drink the koolaid and “disagree and commit”s too much. 🙃 major swerve
