Finding enough time to work with kid in daycare

We have a toddler in daycare who gets sick every other week or so and completely disrupts our week. Takes 3-4 days to recover, by then the weekend rolls in and the next week is also exhausting. We hold him when he’s sick at night, so catching up at night isn’t very practical Any tips on how to get enough work in? Can we throw money at the problem? Back up care fails 100% at short notice. Care.com and others has occasional babysitters, but many ( understandably) don’t want to deal with a sick kid ands they have full time childcare jobs that might get affected. Help! Can’t scrape 40 hours a week and exhausted TC: 400 prolly

As in give up daycare entirely or in addition to daycare?

Peloton nochange Mar 8, 2023

Give up daycare. Have someone live with you that way they are around later in the evening too. Slightly cheaper because they have room and board. Or get an Aupair which is cheaper as well.

Omg! Same for us. Our toddler gets sick every other week. It’s crazy. We are thinking we will just keep him home, it’s not gonna be easy but it’s better than him getting sick.

We use hyland for our kids and as soon as they feel like sick we keep them at home , with our elder kid we would always wait till last moment for medication but was a pain now as soon as we see some symptoms we give them 1-2 doses and 24 hours or rest and care at home and it has been better atleast for past 2 years now , we have 2 year old in day care and 7 year old in school , we also make sure they gee flu shots as soon as flu season start’s

His immune system will eventually get stronger and he won’t be sick as often. - signed, a meta mate with 3 young kids who went through this stage

I feel this so hard. I have no answer. It's impossible, but I understand. I don't even know what the point of giving back up care benefits is when you can't even use it

It’s common with toddlers so best way is to prevent it by giving zarbees ( or some Ayurvedic cough syrup if you are Indian) upfront for some weeks then stop and again do it. It will not stop it 100% but less sever.

They either get sick now or in preschool. It lasts 6-9 months. They’ll continue to get sick but it’s more just runny noses. Your work is going to suffer because taking care a needy sick kid is exhausting and time consuming. For me, I just decided to fall back in my career by doing the bare minimum. I had to work at a lot slower pace and let my boss know I had too much on my plate. We did not have family to watch kids so we didn’t have an alternative solution.

Meta is not great for parents

Twitter sksnj81 Mar 9, 2023

From what I've heard from friends at Meta, it seems as though it is great for parents that identify as cis white men though? Genuinely curious how folks manage to move up when weighed down by the weight of work and the world and sick kids.

I got promoted working 30-40 hours a week. I like my job and I want to find 30-40 hours a week to work

Live in nanny willl solve the problem with kid getting sick. When they are 5+ they still get sick but recover quickly. Kid will get bored with nanny so you may need to look for someone who can drive and take lo to park libraries etc. We did daycare with our 1st one and had same issues.
