28 YO Male L6 @ Amazon - TC: 395k NW: $1.2m (~1m in home equity; ~250k Trading account; ~30k 401k; ~80k loan/personal line of credit; bank account ~9k) Okay, so.... I had a CLA AMG as my first car, then I returned it after lease. Then I got a Rav4 hybrid, which I sold it in the peak for more than MSRP. Been sitting without a car for over a year. I got approved for promotion from L5 to L6 this Q. The kid in me now wants a Porsche 911. I'm debating between Carrera 4/4S/GTS 4. Looking for advice on how I should go about it. I never bought a Porsche. (I called Progressive and they said they wouldn't insure it lol) (I drive my dad's car as a daily driver since he doesn't use his and plan to use the Porsche as a weekend car and probably keep it for 10-15 years or for as long as I can) Is it even worth getting something higher than 4S? Do you recommend a used one or brand new? Used ones have a high mileage for a sport car and price isn't too different. On the contrary, the Carrera 4/4S have 1-2 year wait while GTS4 has a 3 year waitlist. Working with a dealership who is not charging any markup. Any suggestions / thoughts from someone who knows a little more than I do or has owned a Porsche 911 before and has gone through this journey would be appreciated. Thanks

A 4s would be plenty considering you haven't had a real sports car before (CLA 45 does not count). Gotta work your way up slowly 😎
Unrelated - how is the WLB at HRT? @anti hero I’m preparing to interview with you guys.
I'm not there anymore
Buy a 80's vintage 911 turbo with a whaletail spoiler. Manual transmission. No electronic traction control to get in the way of the fun.
Have you talked to a dealer yet? If you're ordering a custom spec, you might want to start looking now. IIRC there are still wait lists to order a custom-spec 911.
1.5- 3 years depending on the model
Why not get something a bit more raw and exotic, like a Lotus Evora GT?
Porsche 911 >>>>
I have driven a 991 S and a 992 4S. My daily is an SQ5 and a motorcycle for context. And I can tell you a 4S is MORE than enough if you aren’t really tracking it and if you are it’s still enough you will just get the mod bug. I couldn’t believe how good the 911 felt to drive. It makes other cars feel inferior.
Why get a 4S if this is going to be your weekend car? Get the Carrera S with a manual and keep the options to a minimum. RWD cars are way more fun. Also, you are not going to keep it for 10-15 yrs lol. Porsche is really good with tempting us to upgrade to the next gen. Before you know it, you will be dreaming of either a GT3 or next gen GTS.
So I can go snowboarding in the mountains in the winter
then get the Dakar ........ now is the time to do it .
Get the one that you like and want. Buying an expensive car is subjective and buy what makes you feel special. That includes the engine/trim and not just the model.
Is this a humble brag? You can easily afford a new carrera 4 gts.
My 2¢, you aren't liquid enough for the maintenance and upkeep of a car like that.
??? He can afford a brand new 911 which has extremely predictable maintenance due to warranty easily with the 250k in his trading account. Only on blind do you see takes like this
