Tableau Interview experience

had a horrible phone interview experience with Tableau. criticising my code is not easy to read, while i write the code(i specifically said i am converting the logic i explained to code first and then i will refractor once i am done writing the code). when i offerred to refractor after receiving the criticism, simply said lets first proceed with this. constantly said this will not work as i go through the code and stressing me out. repeatedly questioned if a specific method exist in the language i used. interviewer should understand that interview is all about interviewee not about establishing “hey i know this better than you” rant over.

This guy gets it. I passed phone interview a couple years ago. I went to onsite. Worst experience ever. I wish I had failed the phone interview.

You should refactor your English first.

This is my experience. If your interviewer is giving you a hint. Stop, listen and act. Don't ever continue without clarifying why.

It's entirely possible your interviewer was an asshole, and it's also possible that he was trying to help, but you weren't listening. Without making excuses for how you were treated, I'd suggest that working with people who think in a different way than you do is a skill in itself well worth cultivating. In a situation like this, you still want to find a way to make the other person love you, because YOU want to be the person to say no if you dont like the place. That said, I've been in hopeless interviews myself and said as much on the way out the door.

You dodged a bullet. Tableau sells itself on “culture”. I’ve seen so many technically brilliant folks get rejected on the basis of “not a cultural fit”. Unfortunately, very often the behavior of employees who’ve been here longer makes me question what are we even proud of?

Hit the nail on the head.
