Salesforce is polluting the company with mediocre engineers from core. Slowly sucking innovation out. Look at Tableau reviews if you want further testimony to this They pay well though.

Tableau is great still as long as you ignore the cult-y salesforce culture, which is pretty easy to do. What's yet to be seen is any effect on RSU comp. Tableau was reallly RSU heavy, and salesforce seems to not like giving out RSUs. Salary increases will not cover the difference.

Why Salesforce likes giving cash instead of RSUs?

Salesforce EBR Feb 19, 2021

According to internal blind, RSU comp of any sort is uncommon. Tableau was heavy on RSU comp with the expectation of growth along with competitive base salary. This lead to Tableau total comp being on par with Google. I cleared $400k with 6/7 YOE in 2019 and 2020 mostly due to RSU comp. Even post cliff with no promo I would be over $300k at the senior SDE level.

RSUs refreshers are decreasing this year. Fewer ICs will get them. In terms of layoffs, it’s hard to say. One could envision that merging with Salesforce core Will result in redundant functions, and that could result in layoffs. Given our massive customer base using non-cloud software, it seems likely that many engineers will be safe fir a couple of years. I’ll be more nervous when we start sunsetting desktop products.

Tableau’s monolithic code base is still around and getting meaningful features launched is still super challenging. Now all the Salesforce security “uplift” fun adds to the party.
