Got an offer today, call discussing the offer is pending. How is tableau as a company? I have another offer from google for test engineer role in Seattle.
Google will likely start you with 20-40% higher base pay
Check Glassdoor.com. I took a pay cut from Microsoft but bonuses covered it. Those have dried up with the stock price.
Glassdoor says it'll be in the range of $110k :( but people are saying apparently tableau has really great benefits and the best health insurance they've ever had etc
It is the best insurance, I will give them that. The company is quite enjoyable to work at too. Unfortunately, the base pay is disappointing to say the least.
What benefit does Tableau have that is different from the rest of the industry's? Typical insurance, commuter, etc.
Is the offer for Senior Software Engineer? TC is probably a fair bit shy of Google, base in particular. If it's senior definitely quite a bit higher than 110 though. They tend to grant pretty substantial equity putting offers on par with a "typical" Amazon offer for example, though not some of the more impressive ones I've seen here. The company has a good culture, interesting work, and probably much more ability to have impact and drive change than Google if you are so motivated. I think there are about 1000 people in engineering (the rest sales) vs who know how many in Google where you'd be much more of a cog. That said, there are a lot of challenges particularly with the build systems and tech debt. I would definitely recommend as a workplace, But if money is the primary motivation I'm pretty sure Google will be the better choice. Health insurance is extremely good, best I've had. No monthly cost if single and it's a PPO not HDHP. Pretty much the old "Cadillac" plan at Microsoft they abandoned due to cost. Nothing that notable for the rest of benefits, the one exception being their ESPP plan which is at a 15% discount over the lower of starting or ending price of a period. 401k match is quite mediocre.
This is a really great description of the Tableau US benefits.
It's a good time to join if you want to champion devops philosophy, if you want devops philosophy already SOP Google might be a better bet. Good people for the most part, just feels like some of them slept through the culture shift of 2008
culture shift of 2008?
The devops movement started around 08 as a ever evolving but formal idea and then became mainstream in 13 with the Phoenix Project
Is tableau offer for dev or test? Which group?

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
I have been at Tableau 3.5 years and love it. The team collaboration is exceptional. The pay is likely better at Google. But I go to work happy and come home happy
Are you based in Seattle? What range can I expect the offer to be? I am SE3 at my current company right now.
