Tampa vs NYC?

Goal is confused between making lot of money for saving and chill at the same time. Tampa offer is remote Florida btw. No need to go to office. Nerdwallet says 200k,Tampa=490k NYC(Manhattan)

Cost of living comparisons aren’t accurate when you’re talking about that much money. It’s not like you’re spending 200k on food, housing and necessities in Tampa.

@Meta realistically how much one can save in NYC vs Tampa living normally not frugally.

It’s prob 60k more per year for rent and food in NY. NY is miserable vs. Tampa is more paradise. I’d go Tampa.

Can't beat NYC. Endless activities. You'll get bored in Tampa after a month.

What kind of activities in NYC? Let’s say you have been living there 3 years, how would you spend two weeks? I’m trying to see if it’s worth to move there for myself.

Basically going to bars and restaurants. NYC is so overrated

Food, activities (bars, food, art, culture), how interesting the people you meet will be is all NYC. Ok hiking outside of the city (Catskills, etc). Also NYC work culture has an edge, you've got world class talent that most cities dont come cloae to, this will give you opportunities to meet people you'll never meet in Tampa, so for career progression or opportunities to explore new ideas/paradigms/hobbies it's unparalleled (my salary 1.5x after 1 year in NYC, 2x+ shortly after). That said, you're already at a high salary so might not be true for you. Shit weather, can be stressful as fuck but money really helps. Tampa has better weather, but honestly that's about it. It's Florida, it's mid, it's affordable compared to NYC. If you've never lived in NYC you should do it at least once. It's life changing in a lot of ways. Tampa is just florida. It's fine, but that's it. You'll have plenty of time to chill in NYC, and your paycheck means you won't be wanting for anything

My family lives in Tampa and I currently live in NYC. NYC 10000% it’s not even a question

Tampa Bad: gutted public school system, zero opportunity to switch, horribly hot, running from hurricane, sky high home prices, ridiculous home insurance and car insurance. Crazy Republicans Good: awesome weather Dec to Feb, access to beach Last I had conversation with my high school son, i was telling him look for out side of Florida and never come back. Not a place anymore to have family. Used to be good here but not anymore.

Lmao people always try to cope living in shitty HCOL cities. I would personally vote Tampa.

Meta JgyF34 Dec 24, 2023

Tampa seems pretty shitty to me, but you do you.

Tampa is an upgrade from Redmond/Seattle.

for those of you thinking Tampa is boring, should add Orlando to the equation.it probably takes the same amount of time to explore attraction in NYC from your NJ home.

If you wanna be surrounded by olds, morons, and those creepy disney adults then sure

Recently moved to Tampa from NorCal and absolutely love it. Most people i meet here are from out of state and the picture people had painted of Tampa for me is nowhere near what it actually is. I absolutely love the quality of life here.
