Made some great moves in the stock market and I’m up 500k this year. Turns out I need to pay quarterly installments of taxes on my gains or I will get an addition 10% added to those taxes so now my whole paycheck is going to pay off taxes. This money just lines the pockets of our useless government officials and all the companies that lobby them. I would be fine if they were going to a good social cause but most of it goes to our military industrial complex and to bail out dogshit companies that go under. Taxation is theft. YOE: 1 TC: 280k

welcome to capitalist America
Bro, rule number 1 of United States of America, the most worked on laws are tax laws and only thing America cares about is money. You basically have to anticipate any dollar you touch someone wanting piece of that.
I just … how do you expect to live in a civilized society unless some money goes to run it? I get it that pre-planning and thinking about taxes in advance isn’t fun, but it’s part of being an adult.
“Some money” goes to run it is a key word here…
"Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain." - Frederic Bastiat
"Dont tread on me"
I agree that gov tax cut is more than you receive back. As for the military expenses, I think it is a myth. Take a look at this, official gov data - https://datalab.usaspending.gov/americas-finance-guide/spending/categories/ What I see that we spent more on healthcare than on mil. Not even talking about social/income security.
Correct. About half of the budget goes to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. About 15% goes to the military. That might be too much, but it is much less than the others.
Yup. In fact, now we spend almost 3 times less on military than it was in 1960s. Source - https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/USA/united-states/military-spending-defense-budget
Your stock market gains most likely was a beta bet ie you gained because market rallied, not because of your timing skills or stock picking skills. If you have those better be a hedge fund manager. Why the market rallied? Goverment and fed printed so much money. How can they can do that without dollar crashing? Because dollar is a reserve currency. Why is dollar a reserve currency because it is backed by the most capitalist society and strongest army. So yes pay your taxes. If you don’t like the machine get out of it
Sounds like we live in a society
