Heard it was a shite-show for the first years in early startup days. Wondering if mellowing to make a move.
App install for low CPI's won't last unless they fix the issues Uber noticed with fraud etc. VC money fuels the demand for these companies but as soon as the results are really scrutinized the money stops flowing. Unless they articulate a real plan to evolve I would avoid.
A very Toxic Culture. Leadership is ran like the Trump Administration. 🥴
What more needs to be said...Ted reduced the work force during pandemic when the app economy was thriving. He had to reduce the work force to manage margins because he spent too much on a BS acquisition.
App Annie announced lay offs last week. They did so in the most cowardly manner possible. CEO Ted only likes to address the company when he has good news. When there's bad news...where's Ted. Where is Ted? He decided that the product team needed a refresher so he replaced the well-liked CPO with...CEO Ted! And then he realized that product is hard and that he was a sales guy. And then Ted panicked. So...he started firing all sorts of people, but very few in his beloved sales org. This is of course hilarious because a lot of the sales team are polishing their CVs to get out of App Annie once the quarantines lift. App Annie will be reduced to a husk. Who knows if the board reads this stuff...but your best move is to replaced Ted with the founder.
Wow. That is definitely in App Annie fashion. Just all over the place. What a mess
Culture: they're trying to promote a culture of "excellence!" Executive team is surprised why everyone is leaving in the vancouver office. They're scratching their head thinking: "but the product you're working on is the future of app annie! how come you're all leaving?" I don't know bro. maybe the absolute shite management you put here? asking for a raise or a salary negotiation is considered either "burning bridges" or you're told "let's see how this next quarter goes". App annie is not a product or even customer driven company. it's a sales driven company. if you're not in sales, your voice doesn't matter. WLB: I'm not joking about this. at the beginning of a sprint the PM told someone your tickets were due last week. at the beginning of the sprint. like he didn't even know about this sprint. Sam Yang our head of sales (read CPO) decides some random timeline for feature release and good luck to anyone who wants to meet the deadline. what ends up happening is the team asking the PMs to push the deadline but they're like: "our hands are tied. this is the deadline. let's see how we can meet while keeping Sam and Ted happy." (Ted is CEO. also a sales bro) we spend more time in meetings giving estimations than actually working. who cares about the estimation? dear ted and sam of course. they wanna know when they can promise customers new shiny features. forget agile, forget waterfall. this is app annie. if you wanna experience what a shite show a sales driven company looks like this is it. you might now be thinking "I have tough skin. I can get work done. I can work towards a vision." don't bother. the vision is changing every month. the org chart is being updated every month as well. no long term thinking or goal to unify the team. if there is one it's not communicated with the team. We don't even know what we're building or why.
North American and Asia marketing is now being run by an App Annie insider - a French guy living in London. He just let go the email marketer who was able to drive tons of engagement via webinars and general content marketing. 'nuff said. How has Ted not yet been fired?
If only this platform had GIF’s lol 😂 what a train wreck smh! 🥴. To your point, if you look at the reviews, the high ratings are from sales employees!
More people are leaving on the sale enablement and marketing side of the house. Sales runs App Annie...they cannot sell so they blame Marketing, Enablement, and Product. Did not have to be this way. Ted's legacy is that at the beginning of the pandemic, he fired 1/3 of the company. App Annie had no regard for the safety of its team. Join them if you dare!
All my info is ~2-3 years old, but I've heard from 3-4 folks culture and especially exec team are pretty awful. The phrase "lack of psychological safety" was thrown around. Old CEO was replaced but apparently is still around as "Chief Strategist". I'd avoid unless the role is really interesting and you have reason to have faith in your reporting line.
