Just started in the bay area, can't stay without a car. Looking to succumb to the desire of buying a merc, always been a dream to own a luxury car. Customized CLA 4Matic with company perk discount comes to about $41k while there are some 2018 CPOs available for 25-35k but their config is variable. Any tips / advice? TC: 150k cash
Luxury car value drops drastically the moment you drive the car out of showroom. So you have to decide between 15k and custom top end. I would suggest to go for c300/c43 CPO at around 35-45k than going for new one with custom top end. And inspect thoroughly if you go for loaner cars. Most Mercedes cpo's in market are loaner cars.
CPO is the way. C class was redesigned in 2015. Don't go older. The feature set is the key. Balance that against cost. My AMG doesn't have the $5k B&O sound option. Do I miss it? A little. The twin turbos would just drown it out anyway. I saved $10k buying my other Benz, a C300 luxury edition wih 3k miles. It was a loaner car, current model year, looks like a baby S class, great deal.
what is a “loaner” car?
Have you test driven these cars? CLA drives like a corolla. 2018 C class is much better.
most “luxury” brands have steep depreciation. check out used cayman/boxster instead. if you’re not getting a top of the line E or S class, your car will really be no different than a camry, just more expensive to maintain.
Don't get a CLA (well, except for the AMG one maybe). It's a car made to sell on branding alone, it has a worse interior and drives worse than the rest of the MB lineup. Just get a regular C class or wait for the 2019 A class to be available
A class would be a bang for the buck!

CLAs..... ok why not a regular c class? Tc?
Updated TC in post. CLA is cheaper than C class by ~8k
