Currently a Staff Engineer (L6) @ Spotify. My scope currently is being cross team technical lead. Got a verbal positive from Two Sigma. One of the HMs said they were interested, but it would be for being a team lead for a small team of ~ 5-6 members. What's the scope of a Team Lead at Two Sigma? Is it an L5 team lead? Or Is it an EM? Also what's the expectations around total comp and growth from being a team lead? Also, have an L6 offer from another company ~ 520 TC. Is 600-700 TC realistic? 600-700 feels high to me. I would expect them to at least match 520 and slightly exceed that. I think you would come in at TS L5. The firm is pretty serious about maintaining separate management and IC tracks. So the scope would basically be managing your team and helping kickstart some cross team efforts.
Is TS L5 equivalent to FB L6? The other company has a path to L7.. I am potentially interested in growth opportunities with okay to compromise on TC..
Those levels are equivalent in scope but TS will pay less and it's highly unclear there's any path to advance since the company is not growing

Yes. I think 520 for staff(L5) is low. Fb E6 pays more, in fact, stripe pays 650, and almost all faang pays more. Amazon can pay 550k. The point of hedge fund is to get paid above faang. If you want to do hedge fund, try HRT or Citadel or Janestreet who will beat fang. Otherwise the opportunities at faang is better. TS only beats fang for level 1,2, and maybe 3. For senior 4 and up it’s not good
You might get L4 VP or tops L5. L4 is about 450k, L5 is about 500-550k. We've seen a lot of departures recently.
I see.. what’s the difference between L4 and L5?
It is basically the difference between senior and staff. Echoing similar comments, high levels at TS are not very well paid compared with peers.
What did you end up getting at two sigma?
I didn’t bother getting the numbers from them. The other offer was too good both in TC and responsibilities. Also it was tech is better than finance in terms of growth n culture.
