Teams at Google that work on transferable skills and technologies
Hi, I am a SWE at Google (L4) working on one of the Anthos teams. I had joined as an L3 in 2019. I feel I haven’t learned enough because I didn’t work on projects that involved writing a lot of code from scratch. When I say “a lot of code”, I mean enough number of lines to feel confident about the language I code in. It doesn’t mean that I worked on config or ops related stuff. Plus my expectation is a lot more when it comes to learning since I have worked at startups before G. I want to build stuff from scratch as it makes me learn things better. Are there any teams at Google that are new which will involve working on projects more or less from ground 0 (I know it is not realistic to expect projects from scratch at G or any other big companies) where I can learn/develop skills that are transferable to other tech companies… Level: L4 Current TC for 2022: 272k (checked on prosper) Stock cliff in 2023: new TC as per prosper will be 232k

Hey even I am in a similar boat. Joined G in 2019 as L3 now L4.If we transfer teams internally does it mean we will be avoiding the cliff at 2023?
What did you do as SWE if not code?
My guess would be op related stuff, tweak some config here, update some threshold there etc
One doesn’t get promoted at Google without writing any code. I mentioned less code as per my expectations since the project I worked on is pretty mature and I built features on top of it. No teams at G require working only in op related stuff or config tweaking here and there for a SWE. Hope that’s clearer now.
