PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
In Cisco and other tech companies, here is the HR layoff guidelines: 1. Identify org that needs to be canned. 2. Next, focus on cost cutting .. 3 identify senior employees in California and New York HCOL 4. Age must be 45+ OR 27-. But don’t touch employees in the age group 28-40 unless quota is not met. @People managers, what are your thoughts? #meta #linkedin #amazon #salesforce
Most recent performance as well
How are senior employees <27 in age?
I don’t think age or gender is a huge factor but they definitely target based on TC and dependency.Below is the recipe per my experience so far. High TC Low dependency employees are first to go. High TC but medium dependency - put it on PIP plan to get the best possible squeeze and turn in to no dependency employee . They either leave by themselves or become target for following round. Low/Medium TC with medium dependency survive. Low TC with low dependency folks are added via refill practice also known as talent management recruiting. Managers(and above) add few here and there for political reasons . They also try to keep few random ones in the pack to save themselves from lawsuits. Also when they do first round they usually have a list of second round . At the end of the day it comes down to balance sheet and saving own as*.
Does they target/layoff low tc low dependency or not. What does refill practice even mean?
Refill means hiring someone in the same role with lower TC . Low TC and Low Dependency are grilled similar to medium dependencies folks but if time comes they will let go first in next rounds .
That’s right. Seniors of age 45+ usually have high TC and becomes easy target while low TC with <27 and < 2 year tenure are targets from lower end. Folks in 30s are high productivity age group and ‘no touch’ policy unless they are very bad performers or in bad relationship with managers. Other thing, balancing team budgets.. usually in a team less than 10, no more than 2 staff engineers or architects allowed. Typical ratio is 2 freshers + 3 mid level (4+ yoe) + 1-2 staff + project manager
Interesting take. Although I would think that the level of legal protections increase the older the employee is
It does. There are special rules for anyone over 40. Age is a protected class.
