What say? Managers must not have so much power over direct reports. Decisions must be made by more than one person. What say?
Managers have too much power in the wrong places. And have too little power in right places. It’s very easy for a manager to make life of a report miserable and non productive while typically not having power (and willingness) to make life of report good and productive.
They're given too much power over your experience at that particular company or team. Once you leave none of that would matter. In fact there is no career difference between quitting because of a bad boss or because of a good offer.
This is too vague to comment on. Although there are some aspects where manager power feel’s overreaching you can’t put that as a completely generalised statement
Managers from that particular country (starts with “I”) have an awful reputation for a reason.
Absolutely terrible. I hate mine
We should have flat hierarchy from mid/senior onwards
I see that a lot in oracle, my manager don't know anything yet get promotions
The is no worse thing than a powerless manager. When a manager is good, IC life is good regardless of how much power he actually has. When a manager has no power over he's own directs, or to move anything around him, work gets bad and he's promptly fired.
If you give workers too much power too they’ll be sitting outside protesting Gaza or something instead of working
Let them protect as much as they want and pay them for that. Actually, force them to protest. Make protests mandatory and required. This will stop protests instantly.
