Hey, Had a recruiter reached out for staff swe role. I read good things online but not sure about tech stack. I understand they use C# a lot, but Go / Java is mentioned as well, but how much so? Given it’s C# is Windows usage required as dev box? #thetradedesk
Every listing I've seen by them lists you must be willing to learn C# so I have always opted out. There's a thread here somewhere where they calculate your TC based on expected stock growth (not current price).
C# is fine but can’t really use Windows 😂
Not a fan. Everything is harder on windows when it comes to development.
Yes mostly C#. Some Java. There are some small efforts to explore Go and another team is using Kotlin I think. The legacy stack needs Windows but there is a lot of effort to break it up. Many use Macs but sometimes rdp to Windows is still needed. C# itself isn't such a bad language though. It's truly OS agnostic now. If you really dislike the language tell the recruiter and they might be able to find a position that uses something else.
Thanks! C# is all right, just I haven’t used Windows in last 15 years.
I wouldn't let it stop you from interviewing, but press the hiring manager for details on your concerns when the opportunity arises.
I now write C# on Mac but have occasionally to use RDP to Windows for some legacy stuff
Thx guys
There are teams that don’t deal with windows and you can develop freely on mac, so yes worth talking to recruiter and making sure you would be considered for one of the positions in such team
C# is cool Much better than ruby 🥲
How are you still there ?
Not there.
