Tech vs Partner at KPMG

We have this dude from my college who constantly brags about his role and work in parties. My other college mates are in tech at Staff and M2 level. But this dude constantly make sarcastic comments. Is Partner a big deal? He sounds like he only deals with C level execs. I have been only in tech so don’t know much about consulting. How does partner map to tech say faang?

Partner is like SVP from a power standpoint

Being a partner is pretty big, depending on your speciality , how many clients you bring in as a partner his salary could be 500-1mil

That’s like L7 comp. It seems the scope is bigger but comp is low.

Yes but for a place like KPMG where the starting pay is like 60k-80k depending on the area he works in (Tax Audit Texh consulting etc..) it takes 10-15 years to hit that role usually, and you require a good amount of connections because you basically interact with c suite consistently to get work from them

The partner's team works with low-level managers and IT/business analysts on a daily basis to build some fancy proposals. The partner then begs the CxOs (their EAs actually) for a time slot to schedule walking thru the proposal/recommendation to deploy more of their team members to solve a problem that never really existed. But they fluff as if they eat 3 meals a day with the C-Suite.
