I referred a friend who is a math post doc to a swe role. Recruiter said she would ask some technical questions to get a better idea of his cs background. He is a bit nervous about what questions could be. He codes a lot with python and haskell, worked on crypto and other algorithms, self taught machine learning on coursera with all homework completed. But nearly zero knowledge on how mobile apps, web servers, etc work. Well, he knows basic ideas, but never worked on these before. Any example questions he could prepare?
Once a Google recruiter asked me what is the worst case time complexity of quick sort. I said N square without thinking. Then there was a long silence :D I guess it was written down to him with bigO and he wasnt sure whether my answer is ok or not.
Good to know that.
