I got an offer from Tesla Autopilot hardware team, but looking at the current situation, is it worth taking the risk, I like Tesla and the team , but scared about the future.
Well by that logic 95% of the companies will be eliminated 🤔
I like to stick to companies that are true to their engineering talent like Apple, Google (Google shit down Fiber but did not fire a single engineer) end of day its a personal career choice, just my 2 cents
I doubt it has anything to do with “Engineer loyalty”. It’s all business and they know recruiting engineers is hard, so they’re probably the last to let go. But if the business falls in hard times, google will not hesitate to cut engineers if needed.
Just fyi, tesla internally fires people almost every week which is when musk is on the floor....it is kind of dictatorial and no reasons are given whatsover. It has happened with a couple of my friends and they had seen more than a dozen firings in the past month at HQ.
**Including the autopilot team
Wow thats suprising. I thought Tesla was all about tech
Yes you will be fired if you're incompetent. But not because the company can't afford you. What you're seeing now with all the bad pr is temporary. The company is going to be in a completely different place by end of Q2. Coming to autopilot hw. They have really cool projects going on. Whatever happens you will definitely grow and learn a lot as an engineer. It's also led by Jim Keller and has an incredible bunch of people in there. I'd say don't miss out on this opportunity just because the media is shitting all over the company.
Thanks, good to know

Feel doubtful of the Autopilot teams strategy and technical direction. They can’t achieve proper autonomy with their beliefs. So many of their senior leaders have left because of the same
I think the recent crash is just blown out of proportion, they do have a very good product and once they can figure out the timeline issues, it might become a great company, and I believe Autopilot is one of there important team, so work should be really good.
Not talking about the recent crash but know about the internals of their approaches and many ex senior folks who left because what Tesla is doing cannot reach autonomy
If you can afford the risk of being let go at any second, I say take it. Opportunities like working at Tesla are usually only matched by the likes of NASA. The caveat being Tesla will not hesitate to let anybody go even on speculation that an individual can't perform better than the rest of the market, consistently. A lot of people say "FinTech let's people go a lot. Amazon a little less. And everybody else is typical." With that said, I would argue that Tesla makes Amazon look like a place of retirement.
I wonder what you based this comment on. I have seen ~2% being let go in our group over the last year. More managers and PMs on the other hand...
Curious, what are you working on at Apple?
ASIC design
Go for it. You’re obviously a very smart person with valuable skills. Worst case scenario: Tesla goes under. You’ll still definitely find a job.
Right now is the perfect time to join, take advantage of the low stock prices and watch your RSU’s skyrocket as soon as Model 3 production shifts into high gear.
That's what I am thinking, but the team should be alive for a year 😛
Nah, not sure if you paid attention closely during during the early stages of Model S production but these are just growing pains of a smaller car manufacturer ramping up production of a mass market vehicle. Despite what the media says, Tesla’s here to stay.
Well if you checked Elon's twitter on Sunday you would know we are already bankwupt. ;)
That's what I am concerned about, one fine day Elon wakes up and says , I don't need this team and I am fucked 😵
Exactly akrw, if you listen close enough you can hear our agonal respiration’s from our deathbed 😂

Why do Indians support Israel so much( on blind surprisingly) when Israel really thinks 💩of them ?
Dont do it, never join a company that fires its engineers
I won’t join any company that does not. Some engineers are just either not good, or not willing to. Everyone else has to pick the slack. One of my former colleague was let go: he had a lot of experience and seemed knowledgeable, but he wasn’t doing much. From his own acknowledgment he was tired of software and didn’t want to put much effort into coding anymore. Since he wasn’t the kind of guy to transition to management or leadership it was hard to justify keeping him.
Lol people will justify their companies actions at what ever cost so they can sleep at night, don't they?
