Tesla Vs. Other EV Battery companies

I’m interested in the EV battery space and was wondering if it makes financial sense joining Tesla right now compared to other up and coming battery manufacturing companies. There’s like 10+ battery companies that are going public since last year and all working on technologies with a lot of funding. I know Tesla is Tesla. But surely, these companies in the next few years should most likely shoot up, right? Right? I’m interviewing at Tesla, one verbal offer at one of 3 battery manufacturers. Batteries have so much growth happening right now. It’s a great industry to be in. I’ve been doing it for 8 years and am about to jump ship to GM as they increased my TC by almost 50%. I was interviewing with Tesla and was super bummed I had to withdrawal but the GM offer was good enough and didn’t make me have to move to a high cost of living area. With Tesla I think it depends on your priorities. It was made very clear to me during the interview process that I was going to work and work often. If you’re ok with that then have at it. I have a young family so my current employer which is a dream but forgotten battery manufacturer and GM are a better fit for WLB. The other thing is my GM offer came in at about the same compensation that Tesla was going to offer but their offer include stock. That stock can very likely go way up still but it can also crater to the center of the earth. I think Tesla had really good battery tech but they also scare me when I hear about their car quality. Battery quality is way more important and all it will take is some sort of Chevy Bolt type of error to make it all come crumbling down. They kind of scared me when they talked about the issues they were still working out this close to start of production too.

Thanks for the insight. Glad to hear you chose what’s best for your family and that GM is matching. I understand the wlb at Tesla and that it effectively brings our salary down but as someone relatively trying to get a footing, I believe it brings in better prospects in the future at least. Especially given that their base pay is super low from what I heard from the recruiter. Not to mention the stock price is so high right now smh. Hopefully they become leaders in AI too.

GM — can you please elevate what’s wrong with Tesla car quality?
