Is Tesla worth buying considering it’s autopilot technology isn’t that great compared to Waymo etc. Also why many people are buying Tesla despite high prices? TC: 150k New college grad California #personalfinance #investments #tesla
Tesla is awesome and worth it but not if that $1,000 monthly payment is 1/3 your take home, even 1/5 would be hard
Have 2 Teslas for 2 3+ years. Highly recommend.
Depends on your preferences. Tesla has great battery life and 0-60 acceleration. Their interior is shit, paneling issues are still present, cornering is meh (though the performance handles quite well), and servicing is hit-or-miss. Personally, I prefer luxury. Porsche Taycan, Mercedes EQS, hell even the Mache E is pretty nice, though the large Tesla-esque central screen is a personal annoyance.
Which car you own now ? For long run 6-7 years is it worth considering I am a new grad and takes 7k per month home. Ofcourse there are rsu that vest
I'd rather buy an M3. It isn't as fast but much more fun to drive: handling, sound, RWD. Electric cars are crap.
Your BMW will be in the shop the whole time
Isn’t Tesla handling great ?
Friends and family that have Teslas seem to be happy with their purchase (e.g. user experience, new tech). Don’t count on autopilot/FSD now, but it should improve incrementally. Been waiting for my Model Y order for 8 months, at time of ordering, price for economy ICE SUV (e.g. Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV) was similar considering dealer markup and the proposed EV credit.
How many years I can use it without feeling like a old crap car ?
Few data points for 3, as it isn’t that old (1st release in 2017, < 5 years). Know some early S/X owners with 7+ years, still great cars.
Tesla’s fit and finish issues are real. So if you are a perfectionist, you may be disappointed. Their service is also questionable (no real option to take it to an independent mechanic, and wait times are long at their service centers to book an appointment). These may not be dealbreakers. Model 3 is pretty quiet and comfortable, running costs are extremely low, rarely needs any maintenance, software feels like from the current century unlike many automakers, autopilot is great as long as you still pay attention when the car is on autopilot, and most importantly, the super charger network rocks. I don’t think anyone can hold a candle to Tesla supercharger network in the near future. So I would highly recommend getting a Model 3. By the way, test drive a long range. You may be surprised by the performance and may even decide to not go for the performance trim.
Hey so I was a new grad too and bought a RWD Model 3. Having been in BMWs and Lexus growing up (family members vehicles) I honestly think tesla is way better. I agree the fit and finish can be bad but the peace of mind of low maintenance and not ever going to a gas station is pretty bless. Honestly even as a young guy lots of people compliment my car and it does look pretty cool (provided you get the right colour combo ;) ). I overall don’t regret my purchase at all in it’s for sure improved my quantity of life without giving me the usually luxury car headaches. I plan to keep my car forever
Obviously I work at tesla so I’ll be a bit biased but I still think lots of people work hard at this company to push through products and are super passionate about it so I feel like you can’t go wrong.
Yeah. Also I was thinking about RWD vs long range. You felt regret anytime not getting long range model ? I was thinking should I spend extra 10k bucks for the long range
If you don’t mind sharing the color combo. Aero wheels vs sports wheels. Does this wheel type matter ?
The charging network
