Hello, I have an offer from Tesla for ~150k TC (2 YOE) in Texas as a Software Engineer. I also have received an offer from a mid-sized machine learning/AI based company that was recently acquired by a much larger company (small enough to avoid me naming it) that has extremely cool technology for for ~155k TC in an even lower cost of living area and a lot of room for growth and high impact work. This other company is also very stable in terms of no planned layoffs as well. Should I take the prestige of Tesla over this other company? Anyone here worked for Tesla before as an engineer that can tell me how it is? Is Tesla likely to have layoffs anytime in the next year? Any input appreciated TC before job hopping $119k in LCOL area. #tesla #ai #softwareengineer #swe #career #advice #engineering #twitter #faang #ml
Tesla will not have layoffs but the morale here is not the best so take that as you will
They had like a 10% layoff already
Agree with this, it's up to you to manage your morale. We do work on some cool stuff though. Do what your heart is telling you. You can always quit if it's not for you
Tesla is about to get extremely toxic.
Elon is on a power trip right now. After the Twitter debacle, no saying what he could do at Tesla next. You’re better off at the other company.
Tesla. Don’t let what you read on blind scare you away. WLB is great here in TX
Joke of the day
Suck up to the manchild
Anything else
Tesla sucks balls unless you are in FSD teams.
Yea cuz they never have to deliver anything
You will get biased opinion because of the recent Twitter thing
I was thinking that would happen too unfortunately...
Agreed about the biased part to an extent. But as OP himself mentioned that growth and impact opportunities are much better at the smaller firm and it's stable too, I would prefer the smaller firm. TC is also same so money is also not an issue. And working at smaller firm in initial years gives you a lot of exposure which you won't get in a big company.
