Hey guys, long story short, I've been talking to TI for the last couple of months. The initial offer was not impressive, tried to negotiate but it barely increased (detail below). When compared with my current NXP TC, it just didn't make sense to make the move. NXP also matched my not-so-good TI offer and I took it and turned TI down. Fast forward to yesterday, a TI HR VP reached out to me and said they really wanted to bring me in and yet again raised the offer. Now it's really tough for me, as I already told NXP, let them counter and took it. I am not sure whether trying to re-negotiate with NXP is a good idea or not. Need some advices (I had another thread but it's kinda old and not getting traffic). To put into perspective, this is a process engineer offer with 8.5 YOE. TI offer (Dallas, TX): JG29 (initial JG28 -> JG29 -> turned down here) Base 140K (initial 118K -> 125K -> turned down here -> now 140K) Sign-on 30K (initial 20K -> 21K -> turned down here -> now 30K) Relo 15K RSU/option 60K/4 yr (initial 35K -> turned down here -> now 60K) Profit sharing 20% Perf bonus 5~10% 160hr gifted PTO TC ~ 201K Current role at NXP (Austin, TX): Base 125K (from 118K before counter) Bonus 10-20% variable (17.5% 1H 2021) RSU ~35K/yr unlimited PTO TC ~180K Current boss told me a promotion is likely this coming performance cycle (by end of 2021), and that's potentially a 10% of so bump in base. But I am not budgeting it in until I get it. Thoughts?
Make it a poll. I would stick with NXP, get the promo and look for a better offer afterwards.
You've got a poll! You have a good point, get promo within NXP then use that as new basis to look for a better offer.
Stick with NXP... Semi industry is very small and few thousand dollars don't go too far in the long run.. but personal/professional relations do
No. I don't believe it at all. Move is always good. And tc 200k is decent pay for Dallas compared to Austin. If you think the role in TI is better for your career don't give a flying F about your relationships. They will miss u for about a week and just replace you no matter how crucial you are to the team. once you get the promotion at nxp you're stuck with it for 3-5 yrs mostly. Always remember to be selfish.
It is not worth it. Keep looking
Do you have family in Austin? There are not as many Semiconductor companies in Dallas area compared to Austin. If you want to change again in future, you have to move again.. Put $ amount on these things as well and see what makes sense
I don’t have an opinion other than unlimited PTO is a trick to make you take less time off
Yes, I agree. Only reason I put it there is that I already booked a 4-week family this coming December and both companies agreed on that.
You are getting underpaid in both companies. Consider looking for another role in Austin.
Wow, am I underpaid as a process engineer? I thought it's better than Samsung at least?
Don't look down. Look up!
Both seem low go to Apple
Stay at NXP, get the promotion, bounce. You seem to have a good deal. I wouldn't ask for more money from NXP. Although one more thing to consider is, if you're at ATMC, they are losing people left, right and center. So they will say stuff just to keep you around. Don't believe it until you have it in writing from your Boss that you will be promoted next cycle. If you're at Oak hill, just take the offer from TI. Oak hill is closing anyway in a couple of years and the market won't be this hot again.
I can't believe they're seriously countering it with such a weak offer again. I know it may seem like a weird thing to do again, but perhaps ask for another increase from NXP? :) Apple and Amazon are in town, and 180k TC is more like a good newgrad offer these days. 10% increase for having to uproot your Austin life and have to move to Dallas is 100% not worth it. I don't think you even need a poll for that!

Which AI company is the most prestigious in 2024?
It’s around a 16% raise currently. If you get promo it’s even less. I’d say stick it out at NXP, unless TI increases their offer even more
I am also more leaning toward staying. TI's offer is 26% more than their initial one (159K -> 201K) and I doubt they can do much better.
