Texas instrument - back lash after quitting (on H1B)

Friends on blind …. one of my co-workers(on H1B) quit this week, after he quit he had one on one with folks up to VP , he was quitting due to comp and internal politics, the management offered him a counter offer which was just 10% increment in his TC , he is getting almost 50% pay increase, he politely rejected the counter , but as soon as management realized that they cant keep him with the merger TC they provide, he started facing lot of backlash. the product line manager warned him that he can make his life hell in his new job as they suspect that he is going to competition , he also asked him to show the offer letter which my friend declined. today he was abruptly walked out even with out saying bye to the team mates or collecting all of his stuff. He was also told by our manager that TI is going to revoke the I140 filed (not sure how it works). My fear is I am on visa and also way underpaid, if I decide to quit I will also face same issues and abuse, is this common in TI Dallas ?, I relocated to TI Dallas from India 1.5 year back , now I see that this is the biggest mistake I made. TI in India is a good place with nice and intelligent people, folks in Dallas seems to just stay here as there in no other company to move or they have a big house, seems most have lost interest in doing good work and just coast and play politics . I was told good things will happen in 6 months but I am pretty sure they are just scamming me as they have done to many folks in my team . YOE - 6 (BS/MS - IIT Madras) TC 125K + paper stocks which will vest after 2.5 years ---- so didn't mention as they are worth less to me now #Texas instruments #analog #hardware #dallas #india #semiconductor #electrical #Apple #ADI #nvidia #AMD #intel #IIT #USA #india #texas #semiconductor #hardware #jobs #interview

why work for TI after IITM, ? have heard lot off negative things about TI (tiny income), seems to be very bad company , have seem same thing happened to some one on blind.....

TI Tumh23 OP Jul 22, 2022

TI india was good place , with decent pay, ...but Dallas seems to be worst in comp and even quality of people

Most of the IIT’s are in FAANG

TI Tumh23 OP Jul 22, 2022

I could got to FAANG but like TI , now I will go , but only fear is what TI will do if i quit

Analog Devices vroache Jul 22, 2022

All these peanut paying semiconductor manufacturers are filled with out of touch boomers. Get out.

TI Tumh23 OP Jul 22, 2022

I am worried about TI messing up my visa ….they have tried the same this g to my friend , I thing they have made the move to scare the other folks on visa

Ford Motor Company Eye80 Jul 22, 2022

TI can revoke the 140 as it belongs to them. If has been approved for more than 6 months, then revoking it won’t make any difference.

One word Samsung Semiconductors Austin…ok that’s 3

Amazon Gmop12 Aug 16, 2022

They are desperate to hire, but they are questionable to support a visa imo...reach out anyway.

Analog Devices are@66 Jul 22, 2022

Your friends new H1B is approved, right? If so, he has nothing to worry about.

Analog Devices are@66 Jul 22, 2022

One thing does affect in future is for green card, people need employment verification letter from former company. So if the bridge is burned, he may not be able to get it from TI. Then he needs to wait few more years for the attorney being able to file perm. That’s what I heard.

TI Tumh23 OP Jul 23, 2022

Yes correct, I am more worried ,if they intentionally badmouth me after I join a new company, I saw they did to a marketing guy who went to a customer....seems a company with no ethics or moral

TI 347g Jul 22, 2022

Curious what groups you or your friend are in… I understand if you don’t want to say, though

TI Tumh23 OP Jul 23, 2022

Sorry I don't want to revel the group, at this time

TI 347g Jul 24, 2022

That’s totally fair. I just asked because there’s a lot of variation in culture across different groups, and it’s always interesting to get the scoop on which groups have a more toxic culture

If you have this much fear better to come to India. Why live like a victim in some unknown country with unknown people? Live like a king in your own country.

TI Tumh23 OP Jul 23, 2022

Yes that's one of my options, after coming hear I realized that ti can't get people in us - dallas at low compensation, so they try to bring folks from india, folks in india don't know the actual comps and cost of living so many agree happy, but realize the scam once they are here

CFISD fide Jul 24, 2022

@TI It is not a scam. You should feel grateful because TI sponsored you to work in US. You said you were happy when you got the offer in Indian. 125k for 6YOE is not bad in Dallas. If you are not happy with current TC, you can find another job. Dont worry! If you are great at your job, new company will take a good care of you. At the end of the day, you can come back to Indian with 5 YOE in US.

Why don't you lie and quit ? Make up a believable sob story ..Something like.... you need to get married or move in with your girlfriend in another state. You don't need to explain if you quit but you still may have to.cook up a story to avoid any such potential backlash. Btw, I had a colleague who had quit TI Dallas too but he is on GC.

Google Elg Jul 23, 2022

I agree with this approach. In OP's shoes I would definitely lie and make it seem like there is a life circumstance that would require me to quit.

TI Tumh23 OP Jul 23, 2022

I agree with your approach, but the bigger point is why to even go after employees if theybleav3, any ways no talent is coming in and ti can't pay a decent salary, just accept that people will leave , these managers have turned a good company into slave shop where they are excepting people to be happy with hand to mouth compensation

Intel ghwsup Jul 23, 2022

I think you should leave. TI can’t do anything about your H1B once you find a new company to sponsor and transfer your H1B. You can consider moving to Austin. If you are in circuit design, companies like Cirrus Logic, Silabs in Austin love to hire from TI and have much better culture. If you are into digital design, you have far more other options in Austin. Also you are 1.5 years into your H1B. So you have 4.5 years left, enough time for I140 to be processed with new company.

TI cacikcu Jul 23, 2022

It’s better to leave Texas, and take a new job in California if he really thinks that TI may come after him with non-compete agreement that he signed.

Intel ghwsup Jul 23, 2022

OP did not mention anywhere about signing a non-compete. Without a non-compete, you can always go to the competition, don’t see any problem there.

Cisco EulersIdty Jul 24, 2022

yup, it is like the gangster world or pirate ship. Once you are useless to them, to them, you may as well disappear from the world.
