The Home Depot Offer

Got an offer with Home Depot. Base - 130k YOE - 8 yrs Role - Senior Software Engineer They mentioned that stocks and bonus will be approximately 8 to 10% each Will be stocks be provided every year and at what timeframe? I heard the stocks are vested in 2 years. So, does this mean that end of 1st year, we don’t get any of them at all? Please help me understand this.

Ok then definitely ask for more RSUs Generally RSUs vest 25% every year meaning you can take home 25% of stocks year Try asking 100k in RSUs

At least tag the company… I think I’ve only seen 1 guy from Home Depot on here ever

Was that me lol

You my friend could do WAYY better elsewhere. I just graduated this year and I’m making close to your base. So I don’t understand how 8 years of experience gets you 🥜

The Home Depot mulaMan12 Dec 24, 2021

You're probably not in atl tho. Also no need to push others down to push yourself up. Not cool man. Don't you have another way to make yourself feel better??

The Home Depot colonial Dec 24, 2021

I live in Midtown which is as Atlanta as you can get. How’s this pushing someone down unless you can’t read English? I’m just pointing out that OP has way more experience and is being lowballed for the position. There’s no way someone with 8 years of experience should be making close to the same as a recent graduate.

Your recruiter should be able to answer these questions.

Tricentis ggbh86 Dec 24, 2021

Hold on, is this in Atlanta? If so, asking for 100k RSUs doesn’t seem possible.

Ticketmaster 1b27:ve Dec 24, 2021

That seems really shitty regardless. Atlanta ain’t SF expensive but it isn’t North Dakota.

The Home Depot AAWf82 Dec 24, 2021

HD stocks are gonna be super low. They don’t give ANY RSUs on joining. RSU grant is determined during annual review and vests 50% in 2 years and the remaining 50% after another 2 years. So yes after 1 year you get nothing. That being said HD stock has been doing really well. It’s possible things have changed but this is what I know. Ask them what bonus scheme you are eligible for. If it’s Success Sharing your bonus will usually be only 2-3% of base. They will tell you upto 8% is possible but it will only happen in extraordinary years so don’t bank on it.

+1 Moreover, company doesn't match 401k until 1yr + 1quarter. That too they'll only do max of 3% match. If this matters to you.

The Home Depot mulaMan12 Dec 24, 2021

I'm at 100k at 1 YOE. I checked levels.fyi when I joined, and your salary for senior seems the same as other seniors. But at best, I've seen people get senior in 2 years and staff in 4, but usual is like 4 years for senior and 6 for staff I think. So 8 years for senior means you're going to get a bit downgraded. But if it's a step of for you, don't worry, and definitely don't let the snobby people of Blind make you feel bad. Definitely been there, and just don't listen! 😊 Congrats on the offer!!

Thank you!

How is the work? wlb ? benefits ? I have been offered Engineering Manager position. Remote @ HD in payments team. Please share your thoughts.

The Home Depot rPTV14 Dec 26, 2021

That's a good base offer for senior at HD. Many Staff level are around that pay. They will continue to pay Atlanta salary rates, but they are going remote for technology teams so you could choose to not live in Atlanta

Alright for the number of THD people commenting, be less helpful… RSU, granted in March and based on YE eval. Must be at company 90days to be eligible. Vesting is 50% - 2yr 50% - 4yr. Never heard of them giving any up front. It’s retail not tech. “Bonus” is called success sharing. It’s min 1% of salary, max of 8%. True that it’s based on meeting metrics, and we’ve been crushing it so it’s been 8% for the last 4 periods. Happens twice a year, but is proportional. (Salary $125k * 8% / 2 halves of the year = $5k bonus in September and March/April) Sr. Syst Eng. YOE 1 TC $148 Without knowing your background, you should be a staff or DE strictly based on YOE. Get as much money as you can up front, base salary increases outside promotions are small from what I gather. Lots of people hate on the company for this and that, but if you understand where you fit in the org and where you are going (ie leverage growth in your role to find other jobs) it’s a phenomenal stepping stone and has a great culture and WLB. If you are actually intelligent and have a good leader you can be rewarded appropriately. Understand there are tons of teams with crap leadership and zero vision. But they let you interview with basically everyone so you should be vetting them as they do the same to you.
