The System is Rigged

<rant> Arrived here as a student from India in 2007, just as the GFC was starting. Completed my Master's from a top tier university, my parents having mortgaged their home, bank FDs, and other assets. Worked my way from the bottom as an associate in 2009, watched my peers cofound companies and some move to Europe, Canada, Dubai, Singapore while I stuck here for hope of a better tomorrow, and contribute to the society which made me, ME. After having spent over a half million $ in fees and taxes, I have barely anything to show for it. Laid off on H1B and have 60 days to prove my worth to this so called bastion of democracy and capitalism. All I am is just a 'human resource'. The only consolation being I have no wife or kids. Shudder to think. All while thousands of illegal aliens cross the Southern border and occupy so called sanctuary cities downtowns full of needles, piss, poop and more. Skyrocketing rents, gas, groceries and healthcare system which enriches corporations. Woke SJWs with cancel culture have infiltrated nearly every public and private institution, and universities are a sad shell of what they once were - places for free thinking debate and a wide spectrum of opposing views. The system is rigged. Liberty is an illusion. Rent seekers and freeloaders are welcome. Middle class is destroyed. 1% vs 99% </rant> TC: Ligma Johnson

Bruh I work like <10hrs per week.

I am not sure what to say. Really sad man. Chin up and try to find a job in next 60 days, otherwise comeback to India. You have your parents there and job market is still better at least when compared to US. I am sure the blind Indian community will be able to give you a lot of referrals. All the very best !

The same Op used to spew hate on india when things were rosy.

Said no one ever. Countrymen and women of your kind are the worst. You chest thump brown people only when they are rich and powerful. Like politicians and tech CEOs. The rest of Indian immigrants are losers and escapists, according to your kind. Your kind has infested online discourse with 1.5Gb of data per month at 199/ Jobless pricks.

system is rigged dont act surprised. the people in system have only interest of votes... they sometimes play card of migration as security issue. also other interests. Nothing is rational. Nothing is based on liberal values that north america used to be in 18th century as ur describing, world is more regulated. Trump came with riding protectionist wave in world. Covid also showed apathy for migrants in this world.

Come to India. Salaries have been on par with those in the US in the last 2-3 years (of course, PPP adjusted). Delhi / Mumbai / Blr have pretty awesome eateries, weekend getaways, and the usual entertainment avenues. As a bonus (or so I hope), you will be closer to your ageing parents. Life isn’t as bad as you think it is back here.

Sane thoughts. Would not be so easy as starting 5-10 years ago. Pre pandemic times were a world different. Food/rent/expenses can be easily managed with even 50k/mo. But will be playing second fiddle to OGs from tier 2 MBA colleges spewing bookish nonsense. On board with this of course, however the response from HR and my ex colleagues/friends has been absolutely not helpful. HR - bias of superiority, thinks we will demand 1cr+ package, trying to lowball, toxic culture with politics/nepotism Ex colleagues/friends - feeling of vindication, right wing/nationalism wave, passive aggressive, almost a vicarious evil pleasure of getting off seeing a returnee come back Definitely looking at getting into my own business or being a 'farmer' (no income tax for life).

1. You can get 1 Cr or nearabout in the right role and company; no more/ no less nepotism or politics than in the USA if you restrict yourself to Big Tech, other MNCs, good Indian tech startups, global consulting firms, and VC firms. 2. Let go of these ex colleagues / friends

consider coming back to India?

SatOshoa Nov 16, 2022

That's on the cards for sure. But will have to play second fiddle the right wing nationalist trolls embedded in the system there, especially within HR. I've applied to a ton of places and even my so called ex classmates and other acquaintances have an air of superiority now. They think we, the returnees are a second class citizen, and we should beg, grovel in front of them.

Note that, never have I said either country is superior or inferior. But in their own minds and emotions, brainwashed by uncle aunty WhatsApp forwards, they behave like we deserve it. The NRIs have done more for Indian image globally than any resident Indians. Yet the only ones they worship will be ones in power, like Sunak or Nadella or Pichai. The rest of us are traitors, fit for excommunication.

Nobody forced you to take risks, it's your own choice. So you will have to deal with consequences. You will always be treated as secondary citizen in any country other than your home country. Any country will try to prioritise their citizens first over foreigners, so you are no different. Time to go back to India and work on developing your own nation.

You must be new to America. The system here LOVES rich foreigners. It's all about the moolah, baby $$$ Chinese, Russian, Greek, Italian - as long as you grease the lobbyists in DC, you're set. Nation states are a failure. We are moving towards a defacto one world government under one military and one digital currency anyway. It's always been the sheep vs the pigs. Dogs to keep the sheep in check.

Why don't you have a wife?

Google QKXo60 Nov 16, 2022

Lol. Leave that to OP.

Never happened. I guess I always kept looking for the 'one' while running on the treadmill, paying my bills. Dates here and there, but never a serious relationship which could blossom into marriage. Also tried the arranged marriage option, but pandemic struck. Video calls for over a year with no chance to meet face to face. Finally called it off mutually.

Rue Gilt Groupe ggcoder Nov 16, 2022

Well perhaps, you could reignite the flame 🔥. Being in love is an addictive state of being. All of the stuff above becomes secondary. I'm just suggesting an alternate focus , since you have focussed so much in your career , the last few years.

If you came in 2007 and you're on H1b, I assume you have an approved i140. If that's the case then you have more than 60 days: https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/options-for-nonimmigrant-workers-following-termination-of-employment
