The Work Number has all of your employment data, and could be misreporting it to background check companies

If you’re not familiar - the work number is an employment/salary verification service provided by Equifax. Around 3 million companies provide their employment data to TWN, and companies can use TWN to conduct an employment verification check against your resume. You can pull your own data report from TWN (it’s not easy to do this as the UX for it is terrible) and, IF it works, you can see some of the data TWN has on file for you (they call out that they’re not showing you ALL the data they might have on you). I pulled mine and 2 of my employment dates were like egregiously wrong (one said I was only at the job for 6 months, and one said I was only at the job for 3 months). I submitted a form to correct this information weeks ago, and my dispute has still not been resolved, despite me providing redacted W-2’s to TWN to show years of employment. Really just more of a complaint and a reminder to check out your data and make sure it’s all accurate so you don’t get burned during an employment background check. Pro tip - you can also freeze your TWN data by filling out a form and make background check companies work hard to verify your employment with W-2’s and/or actually calling the companies

Did you end up freezing your TWN?

I did - mainly due to a data breach notification I got where my SSN was potentially leaked.

Did it make it harder to prove employment? What information did you have to show employers?

Op, did you call or submit the form for freeze? Looks like the call is easier.
