The level of person who's is referring matter?

I was always curious if a lower level refer you to FB or Google does it mean that you have a lower level target especially if it's not obvious based on YoE? For example I have 2 more YoE than my gf but have been +2 level for my role at Amazon. She's at Fb now but the target level is not as specific as jobs posted in Amazon. If my gf refers me to FB will I naturally be considered a lower level target bc I think my current level is good for my YoE. Any kind of insight into this will be helpful, bc if that's the case I would rather ask my other friend who's a higher than my gf at FB.

Yes but its marginal. ceo referal vs analyst is a big difference. But at the level youre describing it doesnt mean much unless the person has political pull internally

Thanks for the response, yeah I was thinking the same but wasn't sure. Yeah I'm not even talking about Principal level but I was hoping to aim for a senior role / L5

What matters more is the comments that the referral puts in. If the person can better speak to your skills then that is most helpful. I received two referrals from a lower level person at Apple and a higher level person at Apple, and there was no difference.

If the referring person has a personal relationship with the hiring manager, it makes a big difference. Otherwise it just helps pass though the initial recruiting screen.
