SpaceX - Worth it while Young?
Only during the interview can you negotiate and be rewarded. Most of the time during the work, your feedback is just gaslighting, especially from managers. And your promotion is rewarded through ass-kissing, not hard work.
Work hard for years for zero/🥜 hike vs interview prep for 3 months to essentially double your TC? No brainer!
Interview prep can last one year, depending on how well it is. But it always brings more rewards than working hard.
I feel like it can be worthwhile to grind for a promo, but the stars must align: - technical work - org budget - leadership support - no manager changes - incompetent coworkers It's too risky to grind 10 hrs/day when you can get f'ed by any of the above factors outside of your control.
Ehhh honestly you can get promo without lots of work but you have to be relentless in getting staffed on high impact shit, or be in an area where you stretch your scope to do something high impact.
This doesn’t work as well if you’re trying to climb above staff. You’ll have a hard time job hopping your way into those roles
Those positions are reserved for those ass kissers. If any company can fairly select staff engineers, it should have already won a lot.
F promos. I ain’t got no time for dat. Leetcode baby Leetcode.
