I don’t quite understand the intense hatred towards Uber. There are 100 million active users which means it is used by a ton of people. I guarantee the ones on Blind who have all this hatred towards their business model (independent contractors) also have accounts and use their services all the time. Are these just a small but vocal population like PETA or vegans? It just seems weird that a guy will take it so personally as if it’s their own wages on the line and defend the drivers, yet the next second they call up a ride on their phone. It’s like the guy who blasts violence or harassment against women but then pays for a prostitute that very night. When I told my friends that I got a job at Uber, all of them reacted in the same way as if I told them I got a job at Venmo or Yelp or Kayak. Basically a company they know where they use their app frequently. There wasn’t any “omg how come the company treats drivers a certain way or why do they lose money?”, it was more like “oh cool, I use Uber all the time”. It’s just odd that there’s such a vindictive attitude towards the company. I get that there are people who disagree and the point isn’t that they made calling a cab easy and popular, the point is there are 100 million users who use Uber so obviously all of the haters have accounts and use them frequently. So why all the hate?
Same with Facebook
It’s because of the way Uber grew , by cheating and by doing everything illegal and those inside who joined earlier were mid treating everyone - I was in Uber in late 2015 and left in 2016 end , it was the worst company I have worked for in my 15 yrs career
You’re saying this as a part of Microsoft...
Wasn’t Microsoft just as bad in the 90s?
i don't hate uber
Typically the haters are a vocal minority. No matter what you do, there will be haters. Bill Gates does not do anything but give away his money to save people's lives. He ia villain #1 in many circles.
Uber solves a genuine problem, made my life a lot easy when I travel in and outside USA . Uber also fleeces drivers and has absolute say on a lot of things in the ecosystem they own nothing but the software platform. Inspite of taking a big cut , Uber is still not profitable. What are we missing? I don't hate Uber, hope they find ways for everyone in their ecosystem to be profitable. That's the only way businesses sustain. Because economics of the business decides if a company lives or dies, not how people feel about a company.
Obviously everyone doesn’t hate them. Some people are willing to put their cheapness before ethics. My issue with Uber is their pattern and practice of unlawful behavior. Employing rapists, allowing drunk drivers to continue picking up passengers, sharing medical records of rape victims to discredit them, etc.
It’s not the users that hate Uber, it’s the media. Media hates any company that has business model based on mostly lower educated worker work force. They hate amazon, they hate Walmart etc.
Uber Eats increases each item’s price by 15%, adds a 15% service tax on top of their increased price, then there’s 4.99$ in delivery from top restaurants, 5-6$ in tip and 9% tax. So, for two people ordering two 10$ dishes, the total comes to: ~40$ and Uber has pocketed 25% of that. I don’t hate Uber, but they are taking advantage of my laziness :)
Do they do that or the restaurants? Ive asked a few places who do seamless on why their direct prices were different from seamless, and they said they increase it to cover the fees. Some will also now have a menu item, "order on our site and get 20% off" lol

I feel the hatred towards Uber on blind is/was primarily because of the attitude of the so called Uber bros.
That makes no sense. Uber employees are the same as Airbnb, Google, etc. Everyone comes from those firms or leaves for them, all tech employees are the same who just want to put food on the table. Uber has ex-Google and Google has ex-Microsoft, and Microsoft has ex-Uber, etc.
It makes sense if you look at some of the old posts.
