These companies got too big to lose. (Only talking about tech companies over 1T. For this post, Salesforce, Visa, Mastercard, Paypal are small) Unless something revolutionary happens, I think they will just buy companies and get bigger indefinitely The level of revolution I am talking about is 1. Replacing phones with brain waves(signal) where we are merging bio with tech 2. Invention of intelligence (not just ai) 3. Invention of a new material 4. Invention of a new computer #meta #apple #google #nvidia #amazon #microsoft
This is exactly why we have the FTC and why Google needs to be split up :)
tik tok, open ai 👀
Something "new" will likely not look so different and revolutionary at the outset. It'll likely look nonsensical at first glance.. but burrow into popular culture... Like TikTok or Facebook or YouTube... things that seemed like "what's so revolutionary about it?!"
The big companies also hampered startup culture too, its hard to find talent while compensating them at faang tc levels, I strongly think tc got pumped up high to keep ex employees and new ones attached to tc than go out and create companies that could challenge them
One good product like iPhone creates new eco systems So we only need one revolution to disrupt everything
Openai is the next FAANG
Nah. They’re the next zenefits.
I think it’s a reasonable point. Uber and Airbnb are probably the biggest challengers and they’re both sub $100B so 1/15th or so of the leaders. Crypto is a nothingburger and everyone realized Stripe is just a merchant acquirer.
You forgot one revolutionary thing that can easily make new faang.. Govt regulation
I think most likely some other technology or engineering/science based sector will take off. Like you could see pharma getting hot with the new weight loss drugs and mRNA. Or something related to advances is energy
The problem with pharma is that it doesnt make enough money. Saas software makes millions per customer annually but what new drug and medicine justify recurring revenues in the range of 100B per year
Drugs like Ozempic. You could have 10% of the western population taking it indefinitely and paying super premium prices for years
