Things to do before the layoff

As many of you have heard Lyft is laying off 1200 people this Thursday. For people who have been laid off, what advice would you give us, examples 1. Save recent Paystubs 2. Change email ID in ADP 3. Old performance reviews As we navigate this extremely stressful week, we would love to hear from people who have faced this before.

If you get laid off, they'll provide a way to access most of that stuff after. If anything, prepare ahead and have applications submitted to get ahead of the hundreds posting on LinkedIn.

Can we take performance review with us? I thought it was confidential

Why not? I always saved a copy

What do you do with it. I have always had Exceeded+ reviews but never look at them after the cycle. What use do you anticipate for the reviews?

For ICs: Save local config files for ex. Zshrc & vimrc. Your browser bookmarks if you haven’t synced them already. Read design docs in your down time till you get laid off it helps tremendously for system design interviews.

Got laid off from my first job in tech (not goog) Very important things to keep in mind: 1. Keep your ego in check. The market is flooded with candidates who used to make high TCs so the offers you get if you’re lucky enough to get one at what you think is a “lowball” it’s more likely that you were making too much before 2. Don’t tie your self worth to your employer or job title. We’ve just been shown that everyone including CEOs are expendable lol

Raid the snack kitchen and fill up your backpacks. If you need more, bring 2 backpacks. Raid the bathroom as well. Stock up on toilet papers.

Lyft is all remote so your comments are not helpful

Jobox.ai xObOj Apr 24, 2023

All remote doesn’t mean you can’t go to the office in San Francisco

Take as much snack from the company pantry as you can

Get any personal files (and passwords/tokens/cookies) off of work computer, any emails that aren’t confidential that you may need (eg hr/benefit etc) forward to personal email.

can't believe half a million TC makers will steal snacks from company kitchen after lay off! If you are deserving, you will get another job soon!

It's called being new money. I remember a time when I was poor. Can't change won't change being a cheap poor chap after growing up like that already. Maybe my kids can be born rich and won't try to save a dollar walking everywhere.

* change emails in all insurance policy, payroll, 401k, FSA, HSA, etc. plans to your personal email if you can * save personal contact information of your coworkers or people from whom you may need help later * audit your personal finances, cut unnecessary spendings * keep a realistic view on how soon you can land the next job and the new TC
