I accepted Meta E4 offer (targeted E5, but downleveled) and will be joining the end of May. I am located in Canada so this is a remote role. I talked to my friend who joined meta 6 months ago yesterday. He is also in Canada. He joined Ads team and the team is in west coast. He mentioned for Canadian employees, he has to adjust his working hours sometimes. There is no WLB in meta. He works late at night or even weekend sometimes. Besides, meta pays Canada employees low. The base for E5 is just around 170k to 180k. And with more us companies targeting Canada market, this base is not that competitive. I got another offer from a medium sized us company. The company isn’t very large, but the WLB is very good. Also I got senior role with 400k CAD TC. The base is 230k which is much higher than meta base. Initially I thought it’s fine to take the meta offer, since I can learn and do probably more challenging and interesting projects. However, after the talk, I am now thinking about reneging meta offer seriously. Am I crazy? What is the WLB for other remote Canada employees? I really need some suggestions… I am confused… Meta offer: E4 320k CAD, 165k base + 15% bonus + 350k rsu (4 year) + 25k signon Another company offer: senior 400CAD, 230k base + 10% bonus + 440k rsu (4 year) + 25k signon. (It’s a public company) (This company isn’t very big. So hide the name to not be recognized) Yoe: 7 #tech
Take the more money and better WLB. If you really want big tech, you can always go back in a few years. Also, meta ain’t doing that well with the rebrand
Go with another company..you can go to meta after some year at higher level
I think people join for Meta for name value..they lowball and down level as well but still people join.
You are fine Join other company Meta does not have ethics .. they just cancelled hundreds of interviews and even kept on hold for selected candidates
Canceling interviews is now unethical 🙄
A day before the scheduled day - it is.
The pay gap doesn’t seem that drastic. I would think about the longer term—having Meta on your resume will likely make it easier to get future roles that interest you more (you don’t seem that interested by either of these companies tbh)
80k is a lot of money
Stock with 13x PE ratio and 50% down is a lot of opportunity
Meta is not in need of E4s now
They are firing all E4s? Or you mean no new hires
Hiring freeze for all E4 and E5
Meta probably makes your resume look better than the other company
“He joined Ads team”, that’s where the WLB is bad. It’s good for fast career growth, but it comes with poorer WLB. You can choose a different team which is more internal, and you’ll have a fine WLB. Now picking a different company due to TC is something else.
This. The problem is Ads, not Meta.
Are most ads infrastructure teams bad wlb?
Totally reneg on meta. They are randomly pulling offers right now.
Fake news, the only people who lost offers were recruiting contractors who don't actually work for Meta, and someone who had their visa denied.
Ah good to know, thanks.
Is the 400k paper money? That’s a solid raise so I’d say renege if it’s “real money” as opposed to a startup’s “paper money”.
400k is not paper money. It’s a really good offer tbh
Take the other offer. Zuck sucks and is only tolerated because of high pay. Without the high pay there’s no reason to join.
