Hey guys, New to seattle/washington area. What is the best place to buy car here? I know question sounds stupid, but different counties (snohomish, king) here have different sales tax, also after buying you need to pay for registration fee and all. Will it be worth to buy out of state (like oregon and etc?)
I am in California, what I did was email dealership sales departments to get a quote and just selected cheapest place factoring in sales tax and registration fees.
No rewards in terms of buying electric over gas? Washington state doesn,t promote anything like tax discount or registration discount?
There is federal incone tax credit if the car maker is under the threshold of the cap. You have to check Washington state to see if they have a rebate program. In California it's income based though.

Dealers suck. Either buy a new car direct from manufacturer (Tesla, European delivery for BMW, Mercedes, Volvo) or a used car via private party sale (Craigslist, Microsoft mailing lists etc).
You can try costco too. They have good deals for new cars
The profit margin for new cars is not that high. The pricing is pretty transparent. Nobody can charge you more than they should. The dealers will try to add extras like underbody rust proof, extended warranty, and various special add-ons. Simply skip them. They are not worth it. There is nothing wrong buying with dealers. Sometimes you can get good deals (particularly financing). One popular technique to consider is using email to negotiate. After you have decided which new car to buy, you start sending inquiry emails to nearby dealerships (as far as you are willing to travel). Do not disclose your identity or traceable information. Simply state what model, trim, and color you are looking for. Waiting for them to send back quotes. There will be differences. Then you can start playing the bidding game until you reach the satisfying result. Lastly, go to the dealership and sign the paper. Regarding used cars, it is wild west. You can get a great bargain anywhere if you are lucky. Or, you will deal with the biggest regret in your life. Unless you know the cars well and you are willing to take some risk, don't buy a used car. There are plenty of new cars fitting different budgets.
Did the same. By the time I got to the dealership the price was already negotiated and all I had to do was sign the forms. Still took an over an hour but much easier to do then trying to haggle in person.
Absolutely! Car sales are trained to be aggressive. They have all kinds of techniques to trap you. I have never seen anybody able to get a good deal by negotiating in person. Some might say they got a good deal. But, usually they paid for something they don't need. Or, they didn't get a good financing rate. Unless the sales person is your family, all they care is nailing down a good commission. Another thing I forgot to mention is the supplier discount. Check with your HR or benefit department. Sometimes your company might be qualified for supplier discount for certain brands. You will be able to walk in any dealer and get invoice pricing without any negotiation.

Where you buy from doesn’t make any difference when it comes to taxes, where you live does. Buy from where you can get better deals, get quotes from a lot of dealerships.
