Seems to be progressing through the legislature: https://gizmodo.com/the-bill-that-could-undo-uber-passes-californias-senate-1837753764 Do you think it will pass? If so, can Uber and Lyft survive? Any Uber or Lyft employees have input on the attitude towards this bill at the office?
When I was in college I drove for Uber, I liked the fact that I wasn't an employee of Uber and rather saw Uber as just a platform to make some side money. I don't think politicians understand what a platform is.
I think their understanding is better than yours. It is supposed to protect people which are driving more and longer hours.
No one is asking anyone to do that.

Dumbest state in the union.
Dumbest commenter on blind.. see I can type whateveri want
I'd beg to differ. Have you ever been to the deep South?
Driving a car around requires: rigorous years spent in academia, a specialization of hard to find skill-sets, Ghandi-like emotional intelligence, creativity and perpetual learning, investing in oneself to improve their craft... We should be incentivizing us all to pursue full time careers as Uber drivers. Employers should absolutely compensate with retirement accounts, maternity, pto, healthcare. Okay, no more sarcasm. This is so beyond reetarded. And I'm a left-leaning independent. What don't these people understand? Driving a Lyft should be a side-hustle for extra cash. Not a way to invest in your future! Companies around the world are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to soon automate this job away. It's not a secret! If California passes this bill without providing ride-sharing exemptions, this will prove to be the pinnacle of democratic fiscal stupidity.
Pinnacle? This hails in comparison to the endless quest for min wage increases.
Replace Lyft driving with McDonald's burger flipping. Now tell me why do call career workers or fast food workers have minimum wage and under drivers don't. Isn't that just arbitrage of the legal system?
Election season, Dems bend their back for anything and everything to get them voters
There’s no gig economy if it’s not a gig. This is a blunt instrument that will hurt people who do it as a side gig in the hope to help those drive full time. But the end result is going to be loss-loss-loss. There’re much better way to improve driver income than the proposal.
Agreed
You can always drive a taxi.. there you have flexibility
let's vote all democratic rats out of any office.
and democratic rats are definitely colluding with the Russians to destroy California
