Looking to install trackings for my ecommerce website but I’ve heard Google Analytics is not the best tool. What are your experience with GA and its competitors? I know some people use Heap, Mixpanel, or Kissmetrics.
There’s always Omniture
Piwik Analytics is both good, and open source
Heap is quite good in a sense that it tracks everything out of the box so you can go back and analyze certain events/funnels later on. Especially when you are starting out you may overlook some things. Then again in my opinion for e-commerce you won't see enough gains to justify cost for some of these tools unless you see little enough traffic that you can use one of their free plans. The real benefit of these competing platforms is that they are user based. So they become interesting once you have actual users that you email a lot and that have an account maybe on your website (web app) and better yet also use your app. GA won't let you analyze individual user profiles to that extent. For e-commerce though you won't need it as much unless you are building a subscription service where churn and engagement matters a lot more. GA is enough to track all sorts of custom events and run some basic funnel analysis for your checkout. That's my take at least.
