Hi all, I'm a recently promoted staff SWE at Google trying to decide what I should do about a job offer I got this past week from Indeed. I feel like my comp at Google is close to median for L6 so part of me is wondering if I stay at Google will my comp increase enough to compete/beat the job offer? It's really hard to find data about L6/L7 TC at Google so I feel a bit in the blind about this (no pun intended). Current TC at Google is around $460K, increased around 6-8% the last two years. This was a noticeable deceleration compared to previous years. 11 YOE total. I guess my first and most important question is, if you are a recently promoted L6 at Google, doing good work and kicking ass, can you expect TC to increase rapidly from $460K or am I likely to be in this ballpark for a while? Offer at indeed is $500K TC for first 3 years and then year 3+ TC goes up to $600K. It's for a "Principal SWE" role. Personally, I plan on asking for initial comp increase to $525K and if they agree then I'm inclined to take it. But I am trying to collect other opinions/data before talking to the recruiter. Update: I ended up getting a counter offer from Google for 400k over 4 years and I accepted it. Indeed seems like a great company to me and I liked all the people I talked to, but in the end I decided that it's more important to me to stay with my current team. So the final decision was driven by intangibles. New TC = 560k/year

That thread got deleted. Can you share what was the break down of the offer?
base salary $280-290K, bonus target @ $37K, $170K signing bonus and $170K anniversary bonus for year 1 + year 2. Then year 3+ I get $275K worth of LTIPs at current price. All cash, no equity at all but LTIPs are priced based on company performance.
Thread not deleted. It’s Google channel.
L6 median is >500k
Is the indeed offer in Austin ? If so just take it
If it is indeed (ha) in Austin and OP is open to relocating then it’s a no-brainer due to COL difference.
No it's for bay area
What are you working on at G ? No offense to Indeed, but at the end of the day they are just a job posting site. You might miss the technical challenges at Google.
Let's just say the technical challenge is similar between both roles.
you working on google for jobs? 😎
What level are you being hired into?
Principal SWE. Not sure what that translates to as a level.
Principal is SWE L4 typically
Microsoft bought LinkedIn and GitHub to get into the jobs business. It's a multi-million dollar industry and finding work for people is extremely complex - hence why the Google engineer said "let's just say the technical challenge is similar.." I'm behind many of these job offers, if you'd like to chat please PM me, we're hiring 600 engineers next year and we continue to grow even in bear markets. Everyone wants in on this industry. Google, Facebook, everyone wants a piece.
The bear market is impacting many stock's. We still have 600 engineers to hire next year and over 6,000 other employees, these numbers came over at the end of December in the midst of the stocks falling. Growth will not be impacted.
The entire s&p500 dropped 20%ish..the nikkei, shanghai composite etc and such have followed similar paths. Recruits stock is only a victim of overall sentiment towards equities at the moment. This has very little to do with company performance.
LTIPs value are dependent only on Indeed's business which so far has only been growing. Recruit stock doesn't affect LTIPs.
Looking at numbers OP has..280k base + 170K sign on and 170K end of year 1 & 2, the total comp avg over 2 yrs is $535K (excluding the bonus target of $37k/yr). Seems like a super offer, how is OP calculating this as a 500K offer..this more like $572k (including target bonus).
He would get 170k twice including sign on - more like 170k beginning of year 1 when you join aka sign on and 170k at beginning of 2nd yr aka 1st yr anniversary. For 2nd yr anniversary he would get LTIPs. This is one of the best offers I've seen, but I'm not in tune with the offers these days.
3 times not 2, 170k in 30 days of joining, then 170k on 1st, and 2nd anniversary
Check out this post! "Indeed? (Google)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/aUVe5ht7 Are you the same person?
I am not. :) but appreciate the reference, I'll check it out.
What? 2 recent 500k offers from Indeed? What's going on? Can you please join indeed and refer me?
