I’m half-way through the on-site loop for L4 MLE at Stripe. Among all the companies I’m interviewing with, this is the first one where all the team members are very eloquent and convincing at making me feel good about the role and company. Usually there are always 1 or 2 persons giving more mixed signals but here the signals looked healthy on most angles. I’ve been reading on Blind that Stripe culture has turned around recently. Could people working at Stripe chime in and talk about the current culture at Stripe? Not looking for TC/stock comparisons but thoughts on things like company leadership, career growth, level of trust/responsibility put on people, diversity, collaboration, flexibility, business future, etc… Blind tax: $430k + some volatile RSU @Stripe
Stripe blind is fairly negative and I see a lot of people from other companies parroting it but I am very happy with my role and most of the people I interact with are positive too. Things can be a bit hectic if you work in any team that deals with regulatory/compliance though. It's an odd thing to highlight but that positive energy in every interaction feels nice. Unless the company is winning on every front, people will always question leadership so no comments there. It's not a sinking ship though. Trust/responsibilities are quite good and so is collaboration. I was a bit apprehensive about joining when I saw the Blind posts but apart from our tech stack, I'm content with everything here and I could still see myself happy here in 2 years unless something drastically changes. The interviewers did play a big role in exciting me to join as well. I hope you join if you get the offer; All the best!
I think I'll be in the minority for a positive opinion on Blind but my opinion is my own.
Thank you for your comment, I appreciate! What is the reason behind the change of culture mentioned in other posts, is it related to layoffs conducted last year? If yes then the same could apply to most companies in tech. If there’s something else to learn from this so-called change of culture I’d love to hear about it
Like every big company, it depends. It will depend on the org you end up joining, some are notoriously bad and some are decent. It will depend on your race, I have seen that non-whites are usually discriminated against but that could just be my experience and observation. It will depend on how much you can bs, it seems to work in your favor here.
Can you tell which orgs are notoriously bad? DM works fine if you prefer. On diversity, interviewers I’ve spoken with were all of different ethnicities, only 1 being white. Is there a guideline to have diverse interviewers in the hiring panel or is it representative of the company?
Mmmm I don’t think you can get all white eng team…that would be fairly difficult to achieve…
If you don’t mind developing mental health issues, join Stripe.
Thank you for your comment. Could you elaborate with examples?
Your TC is $430k _without_ counting equity? Is that at Roku or Stripe? But also, if you're L4, obviously that's BS
L4 at Stripe is staff Please read beginning of last paragraph 🙏
Does stripe still stack rank?
are you hot?
