Thoughts on Twitch?

Contemplating applying for a role at Twitch but looking for honest reviews/experiences from current/ex employees. Is it worth it?

Probabaly ask this question when you get an interview at least.

i've never worked at twitch but know several eng and non-eng people who do/did going all the way back to 2014. the general opinion is that things have really gone downhill in the last couple years. they still have a gamer bro culture which can be a positive or negative depending on your personality, but the company leadership is basically directionless and mired with community issues that the company has no answers for. some of my friends say this has caused their teams to randomly pivot work to an entirely new direction while others say their teams have never been affected. WLB seems really solid. pre-pandemic i used to visit my friends at the twitch office and just play overwatch/league for hours in the middle of the work day. as long as you got your work done everyone was very chill with that. never discussed TC though.

New joined joined from Twitch and had some not so great things to say about it over his ~5 years there. Heard the food wasn’t bad though!

Content creators are going to start bailing after their contracts are up, after the recent changes to splits. Less big creators, means less ad money.

Where will they go next? YouTube Gaming?

That’s what some of them are saying.

Not worth it. Directionless, lots of politics, teammates are constantly throwing each other under the bus. Amazon has less politics than this subsidiary.

I agree. There’s too much politics, and recently there’s been too many people playing the blame game. I think we had a period of fast headcount growth, and then we slammed the breaks on. It’s resulted in a lot of new people, and some very uneven department ratios.
