Thoughts on feeling like an outsider?

I started my role about a month ago and feel like my team makes almost no effort to make me feel like part of the team. Im usually in a different building but when I show up to our main space, no one says anything or engages with me except the receptionist. My entire team except me is going on an offsite team building even this week, and when I asked about it, they told me not to worry about it. Starting to think about jumping ship... do y'all think this feeling is reasonable or am i reading into it wrong? Edit: my one fear about jumping ship is that its my first job postgrad and after all it took to land this role, I'm worried I won't find something else

If you're in a different building from the rest of your teammates, that's already a dealbreaker. AND you didn't get the invite to the offsite? Should have jumped ship yesterday, sounds like a shitty team anyways behaviorally.

To be fair, my role is tied to the location im in, but even then, my manager rarely makes the effort to reach out. Im also on a contract, but they made it sound very likely I would transition to full time, but i feel like the offsite snub is bad news for that

Are other contractors on the team invited to the offsite?

Do you go to lunch with them and make an effort from your end? Is the offsite for a release that you didnt work on? What did the manager say about you not being invited to the offsite?

LinkedIn hct OP Sep 14, 2019

Lunch is hard since I work on opposite sides of campus but I have tried with little success The offsite is 95% team building, so the only reason for me to not go is that company policy states contractors cant go to offsites but 4 other contractors are going so that reasoning would fall short...

Ellie Mae thatshow Sep 14, 2019

Ouch - that last line. If 4 other contractors are going and your manager doesnt seem to care much (based on your earlier response), I would move on. If the team isnt welcoming at all, its not good news. For some context - I recently switched jobs. The team seemed awfully quiet and distant in first 2 days. Turns out, they are just like that at work. Asked them for lunch and they are all very chilled out folks. They've started mingling a lot as well. Dont care about the name tag. You got in at LinkedIn, you can get in somewhere else too.

I am in the same EXACT position! So I know how you feel. You should definitely jump ship. If they don't include you and don't engage with you now, they won't do it in the future. Move on to a bigger and better things. You don't need this BS in your life!

My team is filled with a bunch of introverts but once you put yourself out there a bit more you’ll start to find your people. You may find one or two on your team you like or expand outside :)

LinkedIn hct OP Sep 14, 2019

I wish that was the case, but when I do sit in the building they are in, they all talk with each other and make jokes and whatnot, it just never includes me

Oracle coffeeluv Sep 14, 2019

That sucks and I’m sorry. Gotta be a crappy feeling. I’m an outcast in general but I found my crew. How long have you been there? How are people outside of your team?

Oracle coffeeluv Sep 14, 2019

Also you’ll find someone thing else so don’t give that fear attention.

Hulu TgKgh2897 Sep 14, 2019

Don't worry about that.. you'll find something else...maybe even better TC. Staying at a place where you are miserable is never good. I've been in your situation in the past and had the same thoughts and finally jumped ship. I'm also currently in a similar situation but don't care about those people so it's not bothering me as much as it did before. I try to ignore it even though it's hard...just hang in there until you find something better

I wasnt concerned until I read you're being excluded from the team building trip. Is your boss included in the exclusion? Have you addressed this with anyone?

May be you should ask for working remotely and save on commuting
