After too many apartment tours, I have narrowed down my future home candidates to the following (in no particular order): * Venn at Main * Avalon Meydenbauer * Main Street Flats * Park 88 * The Meyden However, Google and Yelp reviews reveal many problems with each of the aforementioned buildings: * Venn at Main: gross common areas, cheap appliances constantly breaking, elevator(s) down for months, (pet) urine smell in the hallways, package theft/lack of security, dirty underwear in the hallway, noise from garbage trucks and street traffic, thin walls, and non-residents getting into the building and throwing parties * Avalon Meydenbauer: disgusting apartments, slow and unattentive leasing office, thin walls, smelly hallways, slow elevators, loud noise from leaf blowers/landscaping, complaints were ignored, and high rent renewal increases * Main Street Flats: broken elevators constantly trapping people, unresponsive management, uses Fetch, insane move-out fees/charges, broken garage gate, thefts/burglaries, building always under construction (such as hallway recarpeting), safety issues, broken appliances, construction noise, fake security cameras, and vehicles broken into * Park 88: water leak causing flooded apartments, garage ceiling leaks, mailroom theft, building and garage break-ins, noisy neighbors, broken elevators, problematic tenants who blast EDM on the rooftop, lack of security, disorganized and unresponsive leasing office, and thin walls * The Meyden: insane moveout costs, broken garage doors leading to car break-ins and theft, building staff entering units without notice, false parking violations, high EV charging costs, garage ceiling leaks, and safety issues/break-ins/things stolen Obviously, all of the above are concerning. For those of you who currently reside at or formerly resided at any of these buildings, may you share your overall experiences there? Did you experience any of the problems listed above and/or encounter move-out issues (i.e., absurd damage charges)? What was your typical rent increase % upon renewal? How common are car thefts/break-ins? On a scale of 1 (not safe) to 10 (very safe), how safe do/did you feel living there? Thank you in advance! #seattle
Honestly they will all be fine. Renewal rates is all about negotiating
I am most concerned about safety/security (referring to the car break-ins and thefts) to be honest. And it would be nice to avoid ridiculous renewal rate increases if possible since I would rather live in one building for years instead of moving every year.
My dude, you will have a VERY different timing buying when you need to do this much research on a rental.
I am not interested in nor am I in a position to purchase any form of property right now. I do love my Excel sheets though!
Rent a condo instead.
Why not Surrey at Main?
What did you end up going with?
Iām at elements and renewal was $300! negotiated to just $30 but still too much in current market I feel. My apartment is good but has the same car / package theft problem you mentioned
Yep. I wrote off all UDR-managed apartments during my search. This includes Ashton, Brio, etc. Thank you for your input! š
UDR is the scammiest management.
