Hi all, I currently work as Senior Full Stack Developer in the Middle East and Make around 30k per year. I have around 6 years of experience and masters degree in Computer Science. My goal is to move to LA and work in a good tech company. I have lot of relatives, friends there and I know that there are lot of good tech companies there. Last month, I got contacted from Amazon Canada for software engineering role and I already passed the first two interview processes. Lately, I was checking the salaries for SDE1 position(with the income taxes and life expenses, etc) in Canada, and it seems not that high. I am not sure to take this step, move to Canada and work there taking into consideration I have no one there. The only thing I saw as positive is putting the company name on my resume that will open many doors for my future. So my question is, do you think it is worthy to take this step for my future? Also, do you think I should target for higher position?(SDE2...) Thanks.
SDE1 tops at 160k and SDE2 200k in Canada. Not Seattlr level but still pretty good.
I did some research and I got 130K for SDE1 and 170K for SDE2. But your numbers seem good.
These numbers are in USD or CAD?
Canadian salaries will be far better than what your getting now.Use it as a stepping stone to the US
That's my plan till now. Do you have any advice how to make that step?
If you work for a year outside the US you are eligible for L1 visa(Intra company transfer)
Which team in Amazon Canada?
With 6YOE and a masters you should at least be an SDE2, I guess there’s also a small possibility for 3.
It's Amazon. They like to lowball.
