Is meta really worth the wait?
1. Did Trump ban Huwaii because it had upper leg in 5G ? 2. Who will rise and shine most due to 5G adoption in next few years ? 3. Did Cisco mess up in 5G competition ?
1. Maybe because it’s a government sponsored company. All the Chinese do is steal intellectual property.
That’s what’s trump told. May not be reality
OP: They do. One that is especially notorious for it is Huawei.
Cisco tried to enter telecom (not just as packet switch vendor). However, Cisco cannot even easily buy other vendors equipments for interop testing.
Cisco should’ve bought Nokia outright to own their IP, telecom Radios & divest the rest.
1) no
5g requires more base stations, and each base station will cost more and consume more power than 4g. Deployment isn’t going to work without cost-competitive equipment (which is what many expected “Hawaii” to provide).
I see. Now who will provide it ?
5g is probably just going to come to major US cities and never outside of dense population centers. Raising operator costs just raises the break even calculation for how dense an area has to be to warrant 5g.
1. Kind of 2. Qualcomm for the most part, xilinx, ... 3. I don't think Cisco is into Telecom, not sure
Yes. But I’d say 1 is more a yes then kind of. If Huawei is allowed to continue they will be the defecto global provider which is a huge national security issue when you start to think about what it would mean for a foreign government to have unfiltered access to every mobile device in the country / world.
I may be wrong here, but RAN Radio Access Network and core network are two crude architectural blocks of any telecom network. Standardization is done by 3GPP and it asks for RFCs. We might have ended up with mix of IPs (probably dominated by Huawei) But, in any case if core network and data centers are within the territory of the country and data is encrypted, it would be quite impossible to tap and have unfiltered data access.
