I have 2+ work experience and a Master's degree. I have the following offers, Thumbtack (San Francisco): Software Engineer (L5). TC is $280k. $185k base, $70k worth annual RSUs, $25k Sign-on bonus. Walmart (New Jersey): Software Engineer 3. TC is $210k. $145k base, $25k worth annual RSUs, 15% annual bonus, $20k Sign-on bonus. Both the companies are offering Backend roles. Can't decide on what company to choose. I want to join Thumbtack because of the compensation and benefits, but I'm worried about the work. Does Thumbtack have better work than Walmart? Please help me choose. #engineering #walmart #thumbtack #swe
265 won't go far in SF.
Do you buy foie gras for your daily lunch?
I grew up in NJ. Not many tech companies there.
Why so low on base at WalMart?
New Jersey?
So, just a small information on TT. just recently accepted their L6 offer. The company is totally remote, the revenue had risen ( from my research their annual revenue is 170 million) which is equivalent to what fiverr makes. That stock started trading at 20$ and has grown 10x. I think I am being too positive here, but I spoke to the team and manager, I liked them and looks like everyone has a good wlb. Hope this help OP
Sounds good. I'm worried about the type of work they have. Do you think the work/tech stack/architecture is going to be better than what Box or Walmart has?
so, the team that I am going to work uses golang, kafka and some in-house frameworks.
Yes, they are using the same. But they won't be dealing with the huge scale right? Is it fine not working on systems having high TPS?
talk to the team and see how you feel about them, these folks seemed to be super open and honest
Why would you even consider Walmart? 🤔
I feel work in the walmart team is better than the work in the thumbtack team.
I worked in both companies. Trust me, don’t go Walmart. You can choose to not take thumbtack offer, but don’t go Walmart. It is a horrible environment there.
How so? Tell us more
Why so?
Can you please tell me which team it is? @walmart

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
Thumbtack seems like a dead startup to me. Lots of attrition over the years
Nah. Business has been doing well since covid. Just doubled our valuation today (check it out). Most attrition was due to Covid layoffs which was true for many companies.
Fantastic. Happy for y’all then
