Hi All, I want to be very candid about my experience at TikTok. I can only speak for my own experiences and can’t say this is true for the entire company. As of a short time ago I passed my first full year at TikTok and all I can say is that I wish no one, even my enemies experience such experiences I have. I’m based in London, UK and am a data individual. Through my time at TikTok I have experienced senior managers shouting screaming and being quite frankly racist towards not only our creators but also at specific staff members (including me). To be clear they would be racist towards creators in a sense that in the UK they would “prefer” if our creators in the country only spoke English. And they would be deterred to work with creators who’s primary creation speaking language wasn’t English (Even if these creators speak perfect English but choose to create in a different language) I’m sure a lot of people on the planet know the UK is one of the most diverse countries and that not everyone has to speak English to express themself. In regards to staff aimed racism I have experienced racism several times where managers expect me to know numerous languages like Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, and many more. One day a manager looked as me when I said I don’t speak the language and said “You’re brown. How can you not know this”. In terms of the shouting. You can hear this from any angle in the office where people especially those senior managers from CN only know how to communicate via shouting. We have a lot of CN colleagues however anyone who is non senior manager is a lovely person and amazing to work with. It’s just management being the issue I also recently applied for a job internally as I like the companies vision but my team managers I couldn’t stand due to the actions they take and how they treat other staff members. One day a senior manager (head of EU/worldwide) level found out I had applied for a role internally (which I’m allowed to do) and told me that “I don’t want you back in my team. What you have done is disrespectful” and now my line manager is saying “I encourage you to apply internally” Evidently now I have a bigger target on my back. I have submitted numerous ethics complaints to ethics teams however in TikTok they clearly don’t do anything. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I have started looking outside of the company for roles but due to the current market conditions in London it’s looking to be difficult. TC £200k YOE 5 #tech
You expected TikTok to have ethics?
This matches my experience in Singapore, managers seem to have no management skills, just aggression.
Ok so not just me. Thank you
Thank God I did not join them last year, although decision was purely based on less TC they were offering
Not pipped
I’m good at my job. Performance never slipped. They have no reason to pip me lol
There's a lot of entertaining videos though that bring laughter in the world and more based videos because they don't censor as much as big tech.
Some of this seems wrong. Whilst I can’t speak to the racism you’ve experienced which I hate to hear and am sorry you had to go through, there is quite literally no shouting that happens in the office, I know this as I’m based in London and have never seen this. Both 180 and KDS with RTO 5. I’m also of south Asian descent and have experienced no racism of the sort. My Chinese counterparts however are worked to the bone, I have a great work life balance but can definitely understand why other teams don’t enjoy being here. Lots of turnover, awful benefits, and underwhelming work.
I’m in KS and you should come to the upper floors in the tea point areas. You’ll hear it there
Found the HR 👆
Sorry you experienced that OP. TikTok is a toxic platform and truly evil as shit
I hope you looked into the mirror Meta or hope you left meta… Cambridge analytica, social experiments on feeds, etc.
I left Amazon because how much of an immoral shithole it was. Way worse than Meta. Meta at least treats its employees well, Amazon drives their poorest employees to the ground, kills small businesses that treat employees better, anti union, etc. makes people pee in bottles. Every Amazon employee would work at meta if they could get a job offer and escape the pip factory
Collect evidence legally, and sue
How many companies pay that much with that YOE in London?
I’ll deal with this for a year or two for £200k 🫣
Lol I have an offer.. I don’t know what to do? 150k at a chill company, or 200k at TikTok with the risk of bad culture ?
