With growing popularity, i have a feeling that TikTok will take down Google in very near future. Here some of the reasons why i think so. 1. Around 80% of Google’s revenue comes from ads. A major chunk of that comes from YouTube. Google is heavily dependent on ads. 2. TikTok has already killed Meta. We have already seen FB loosing the social media dominance and desperately trying to shift business to Metaverse. 3. TikTok was the most accessed domain of 2021 surpassing google.com. Despite of the fact that TikTok is banned in India (country with 2nd highest internet users) 4. TikTok algorithm keeps you hooked up. I don’t know how but this bloody app exactly knows what kind of video i wanna see. My time on YouTube has drastically came down. 5. Easy to flip videos on TikTok. This makes it suitable for quick watch. Easy to get hooked up on this app. 6. It’s easy to get views on TikTok for the above reason. So content creators will chose TikTok over YouTube to get viral in no time. 7. TikTok is extremely popular among the youth. 8. TikTok started with 1 min video. Extended to 3 mins and now to 10 mins. Their ambition to be the next YT is clearly seen. I am not saying TikTok will take over YouTube but will definitely give a tough competition and will cut down YouTube’s revenue. I will hate to see that happening. But we have seen this happening many times in the past in the Tech sector - AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Orkut, Nokia and FB is close. #TikTok #Google #bytedance #meta #fb
As Steve Jobs said " Things will become outdated and will be replaced with fresh/new ones"....Inevitable....
Like Bezos says “Amazon will become bankrupt someday and your job is to keep delaying that day”
Youtube has been mostly dead to me for at least a couple years tbh
Sad but YT is becoming dead for me as well. I hate to say that though
I agreed with point 4. YouTube algorithm sucks! It is tough to recommend something that I want to see. Once I click on a food video, it is food video from that channel only. I don’t need an algorithm to tell me to look at that channel.
How do the thousands of engineers working on YouTube recommendations fail to do a better job than TikTok who have like a dozen people in their recommender systems team? Especially when we hand over to Google unrestricted access to our entire email, browsing, and search history? I desperately want to procrastinate for hours on YouTube but I’m instantly bored with my suggested feed after watching 1 or 2 videos and have to find some low budget Netflix show to suffer through instead.
our recommendation and ml infra team is 1000-2000 strong in China btw. None elsewhere tho.
Best part is TikTok was developed by China. America is finished
I don’t completely agree. Major coding is done in bay area by ByteDance
Wrong. It is made in China
No thanks. I don’t want to see Java coding tutorials on TikTok.
YouTube and IG have so much accumulated data on me and it’s where a lot of creators I like post (podcasters, comedians, and outdoor sports); but I’m starting to understand the appeal of TikTok and I use it more. I just learned recently how to properly get it to sync with my interests. I do not think YouTube (or IG) is going anywhere. Also, IG and TT are fundamentally different platforms, in the sense that IG is more community focused (or was). TT may be best for creators though because of their alg model.
Thanks for sharing your alternative thoughts
This is a truly bad take
I don’t believe you are judgmental and delusional but i know for fact that you are. BTW i am Indian American. And all Indians hate CCP govt. Above all my words or belief wont change anything. This is just a discussion board as i see TikTok has already killed FB
Don't worry G will lobby the government to ban TikTok bc "Gyna!!!"
Hum no, google ads revenue does not majorly come from YouTube. Agreed that TikTok is winning the short video market but that’s only a small part of YouTube.
I wish that was true. But look at this. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1093781/distribution-of-googles-revenues-by-segment/
From their quarterly report, YouTube ads is 14% of their ads total revenue.
