I’m currently a master’s student (non-tech) looking to make a pivot into Product Management. I received 2 PM offers through internship recruiting so far and am trying to decide based on career growth, WLB and location. I’m not 100% set on PM as a future career, but want to take the summer to try things out. Long term wise, I need to be in NY for personal reasons so there’s also high likelihood I need to re-recruit if I intern in the Bay. TikTok - Bay area - $69/hr, OT eligible but not sure how often interns are required to put in more - Likely 5 days in office - Monetization team - Better branding/career options? Capital One - NYC - ~$90/hr + $15k stipend. Long term con is C1 doesn’t offer stock comp - Great wlb, no more than 40 hrs - Team tbd, but likely backend platform - Would this silo me to fintech roles? YOE: 4 PM: 0
When you say long term, do you mean you have to immediately be in NY post grad or can it wait a couple years? Tiktok is a better name/brand than Capital One. Tiktok hires ex-FAANG (read: better comp) and is considered tech, WLB is bad but as an intern you might be shielded from it, and full time comp will be better. Capital one has great WLB but not everyone considers it tech and people try to leave for FAANG (read: pays less than FAANG) Capital one internship translates well to management consulting (even MBB) for full time roles Tiktok name will help with both consulting and tech (non-PM and PM roles)
Ideally post-grad…So also weighing risk tolerance about what the job market could look like in a year. The C1 offer has a high conversion rate to FT
$90/hr for a PM intern? Also Capital One wouldn’t silo you too much. I’ve seen ppl switch out of fintech from there without too much difficulty. TikTok has better rep if you’re trying to make a tech move.
Cap1 pays $90/hr to interns? That’s shocking considering new grad SWEs are getting what, 120 or 130k? Equivalent to 60-70/hr??
JFC cap one is paying their interns the equivalent of a 180k salary + 15k bonus? I need to go back 10 years in my career
Tik tok is tech, Cap one isn't
I personally would go with TikTok probably will learn more for an internship and will benefit you more in the long run. Wouldn’t consider capital one unless the extra money is important for you.
Work at the company where u want a return offer. I would go with TikTok.
Capital one pays 90/hour? Wow. I’d be okay to be an intern again.
