TikTok/ByteDance toxic culture

Hello everyone, this is a warning post to make you aware of the toxic culture that exists in ByteDance/TikTok. Our company is unquestionably on its way to becoming one of the worst places to work. The sad part is that every issue here could have been prevented, but the leadership simply fails. The spineless leadership here follows the lead of their puppet masters from HQ. And they suck our blood with no remorse. We have constantly complained about the terrible work-life balance, the company's anti-remote stance, and, in general, how unconcerned they have been about employee welfare. These, however, fall on deaf ears. We had an all-hands meeting a few weeks ago where we had this AMA session. As usual the most of the questions/concerns, were about burnouts, remote flexibility, and WLB. Our terrible HR leader dismissed these genuine concerns by telling us to stop complaining and start thinking of ourselves as lucky to be working for a company like ByteDance. It was just baffling. The leadership is completely unconcerned about employee welfare - they never listen to employee complaints, they are not remote friendly, they cater to a culture that creates constant stress and a horrible WLB, they never address employee burnouts, they are very control oriented and unempathetic towards the employees. Almost every employee is experiencing burnout. The way they run this company is by treating employees as disposable materials. To add insult to injury, they continue to make these reinforcement mistakes by rewarding employees who work on weekends and overtime. It is a vortex of management mistakes. Just wanted to warn you all. And if our leadership sees this post, don't try to get it censored; instead, try to change yourself and take care of the employees. Do hard working engineers at least get rewarded? What are promotion and bonus like at TikTok? I know they don’t do refreshers which is disappointing

TikTok why, Sep 22, 2021

No, the way it works is they increase ur workload and try to dock your pay. You never get more stock, small base increase at most. They don't care about investing in employees, they are just old cogs to them in their sweat factory. Amazon is eons better for recognizing performance .

Amazon uwgzbvlqp Sep 22, 2021

Damn that’s awful. How do they even retain talent then? Dangling IPO as a carrot?

^^ can confirm this is all true and I’m on my way out of this dump at my 1 year mark, and consequently many people here are leaving <= 1 year mark (LinkedIn info for verification for how many folk left in under a year)

Do you need LinkedIn premium to see this? Also I see recruiters who only stayed 6 months. What happened to them? Is recruiting that hard?

TikTok 🌝ey Sep 30, 2021

Ya it’s hard for recruiting Bc they usually end up working 12 hour days to partner with 🇨🇳 the recruiting orgs are completely disorganized and siloed but at the end of the day Beijing calls all the shots. HR Tools are shitty and antiquated compared to FAANG. many FAANG or ex-FAANG candidates have been declining offers Bc the bad reputation / press TikTok gets no longer completely outweighs a potential IPO

LOL 😂 who would have thought a Chinese company taking care and thinking about employees. There are thousands of companies which will pay more and provide more upside potential.

Amazon uwgzbvlqp Sep 22, 2021

Pay part is not rly accurate. Very few can pay as much as offers that TikTok is giving out to ppl with low YOE.

UiPath weBI82 Sep 22, 2021

Except it's paper money with no clear IPO timeline.

Microsoft qqqqqqqqi Sep 22, 2021

Wait are you trying to tell me a Chinese company doesn’t care about its employees??
